I have a Toshiba SR-a270, seems pretty BOTL. It says auto return but I have to turn the return lever so I don't think it's working right. After looking it over it's so simple I don't see anything that looks wrong so maybe it's how it's suppose to work. Any else have a Toshiba TT?

I had a similar model back in the day, an SR-230. It looked similar, but did not offer auto-return, just auto-lift at the end of the record. Belt driven, pretty simple mechanism, just a cheap basic turntable that worked well for me. No complaints for as long as I had it. For some reason, the older Toshibas now seem to be somewhat coveted. I don't know why, they were absolute BOTL, which is why I bought one in the first place (price). If yours doesn't auto-return anymore, I'd just consider it the same as the SR-230 and enjoy it for what it is.

My Toshiba SR-80 has been my main table since I purchased it new in 1976?
It was TOTL or nearly so. I believe I paid around $200 for it when new, which was a LARGE chunk of cash in the day. It's been a great table. One odd feature is the switch for Magnetic or Condenser Cartridges. Condenser Carts (not to be confused with Ceramic carts) were developed by Stax. They failed in the market place and are very rare. I've never had or heard one. I am currently running a Shure V15 type III on it with an Jico SAS stylus.

There is a little info about Condenser Carts in the link below.

That looks like a fine TT BTY, as good as many Entry level TT's from the more popular Brands both Vintage and new IMO. Properly set up with a decent cartridge it may sound Better than it has any right too.

I have a BOTL Pioneer TT from the mid 70's that has the same problem you have. Only when I bought it used it did Auto Return, Now I must press the Return Button to get it to Function.

My guess is it should Auto Return. It may be that a small lever or Sliding part that is getting hung up on dust preventing the auto return Function. While I really don't care myself, If you want to get it going, Remove the platter and lighty clean, perhaps with bottled air any exposed parts, Perhaps lubricate pivot points and sliding parts with a Silicone spray Lube. If they appear to be oiled or greased, use that.

Also while turning the Spindle by hand, watch carefully what happens when you press the Auto Return Button, and when you slowly bring the Tonearm to Center. You might get lucky and see where the problem is. This worked for me when my TT would auto return as soon as it started. The problem might be underneath the Tonearm, which is more involved.

I have a Toshiba SR-250 that proves to be a very worthy player after several months of use. Although lighter and has more plastic than my Pioneer PL-10, it can isolate vibration and shocks much better than the PL-10, so it kicked the PL-10's butt and replaced its place. PL-10 now moves downstairs to the basement where concrete floor helps a lot. The Toshiba is now sitting comfortably in my study room, spinning every day with a ATS12 stylus. I think it is a keeper.

I have a Toshiba SRF471. Works pretty well after I had it completely cleaned and serviced. Sounds great on B&W V201 bookshelf speakers.

I am considering paying for a Toshiba Boston Stereo console with a part number I don't memorize. Is the phono section a ceramic / crystal type or moving magnet? Thanks for your help.
