Anyone Here Does Karaoke On A Regular Basis?

Here in Korea, like drinking, karaoke is very commonplace. Whether it's done in private karaoke rooms which are on every street corner, public karaoke bars, room salons (gentlemen's clubs) or even live band karaoke, it's everywhere.

I usually end up going once a week at any one of the above places.

Just wondering if anyone else does it since we're all fans of music and many of us also play musical instruments. If so, what are your "go to" songs?

I've seen the video before. Never knew who she was or that she went on to something bigger and better.

According to Wikipedia, she did an early exit from one of those "Idol" type shows. Somebody shot that youtube video after that, posted it, and she became a hit.

My wife goes all the time. I go more when in Hilo, as some of the joints double as a pupu bar. (Free food with your purchased drinks).

Tony Orlando and Dawn's Knock Three Times is a crowd pleaser in Hilo, you will hear a rousing rendition every time you spend an evening there. (Everyone knocks on their table and the bar and taps their glasses).

Always a fun song when there's an older crowd that remembers that song. Maragaritaville is another fun one with a crowd, although a lot of younger folks seem to know the song quite well as well.

Not a regular, but there are a couple of traveling DJ /karaoke gigs around. I don't go on stage but my SO does occasionally. Her song is "Strawberry Wine". Some folks are pretty good, others well...(those my brother one time likened to musical food poisoning). In all cases though they have my respect for at least getting up in front of the crowd.

We're pretty close to goat ropin' country around here. Back in the day when we occasionally hit a bar or two, one of the karaoke favorites was "The Rodeo Song".

I hesitate to post a link, but it's right there on youtube..........................:thmbsp:

This was 10 years ago. I'm still not famous.

I been out of the karaoke circuit here in Rockport but had an opportunity to sing today (Apr 11 24),

Started off with 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon' - Tony Orlando..

Then I did 'Somebody done somebody wrong song' - BJ Thomas, - and then another BJ Thomas -' I just can't help believin'.

'A Thousand Miles From Nowhere' - Dwight Yoakam

Then finished up with 'Wave on Wave' - Pat Green. It was a good afternoon.

Hell, I'm hitting the stage 4 out of 7 evenings. First song each place cues up is Floyd's Comfortably Numb, followed up by The Rolling Stones Wild Horses. Depending on how many are there, if I do several more its usually Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, U2 With or Without You, George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Jelly Roll's Save Me, or Whiskey Myer's Broken Window Serenade.

My "go to" Karaoke songs:

1) All Right Now by Free
2) We're An American Band by Grand Funk
3) It's Only Rock N Roll (but I like it!) The Stones
4) Jumpin' Jack Flash The Stones
5) Yesterday by Paul McCartney
6) Tie Your Mother Down by Queen

I don't get to belt 'em out as much as I once did...but always game...

I remember the first time I did karaoke....

For years I would sing along with the radio in the work truck,(alone of course),while going back and forth to the jobsite. I always thought of myself singing at the karaoke, but also thought that only drunks, who only knew the chorus would get up and sing due to the alcohol content in their blood system.( or the lack of blood in their alcohol system...either way).

One nite, about 10-12 years ago Mrs Reel and some friends, and I, were at a local pub. I was just there to have a couple beers because I was the DD (designated driver). They were always tryin' to get me to get up and sing. Well I kept sayin' NO!!...I ain't sanging that redneck stuffe! but they were having no part of that. They went to the karaoke DJ and put me into rotation. I guess I had no choice at that point because the crowd was giving me shi...err grief. So I went up and did 'Margaritaville' by Jimmy Buffett. I actually did better than I thought. I did 4 more songs that nite.

I have been hooked on singing karaoke ever since. Actually I have been told that I am one of the better singers in our little town go-figure. And we have many very good karaoke singers in this small little two horse town.

Now I have a whole repertoire and since I am now 'semi' retired I am trying to get back into it on a regular basis.
