Anyone in here famous or know of one?

I sold Bill Cosby a stereo system when he attended UMass. Not sure if it makes me famous. Also, I held SAC NH-1 certificate but I bet no one even nows what it means.

I got stuck in a bridge in my hometown, when I was 12. I was famous for a week in two counties! Don't ask.

Mike

Ok, now that you began, you might as well finish  :thmbsp:

Cheers

When i read someone saying derogatory things about a 70's one-hit-wonder or giving bad reviews about an album, sometimes I wonder "maybe that star is on these forums".... how embarassing.

Do we have an aged Leif Garrett in here, or maybe a guy who was a roady for talking heads in the seventies or a girl who dated someone from DEVO.

Its is time to come clean with your past..........

I can find myself if I Google myself. Does that count, since I'm known the world over via the wonders of the Internet?

I knew all sorts of people, including the guy who wrote most of the Dixie Chick's music.

I also had Nelson Pass reply to one of my threads on DIYaudio, once.

I have run acrossed a few celebs in my time. I went to elementry school with The son of Redwing hockey player Terry Sawchuck , and met his dad and Gordie Howe at a school assembly. I also went to elementry school with Dave Gilbert of the Detroit band the Rockets and his Brother Mark Gilbert from Adreniline. My best freind is the older brother of Anita Cochran, who had the Country duet out with Steve Wariner called "What If I Said". I also had a great conversation at a Jamborree I played with Tommy Durden who Co wrote "Heartbreak Hotel". I have jammed with a few members of One hit wonder bands including the drummer from THe Swinging Medlions(Double Shot of My Babies Love) and the bass player from Sam the Sham and The Pharoes

Just remembered I met this old retired doctor at our local Marina a few years ago who reckons he taught Picasso's daughter how to surf... or was it grandaughter. He seemed genuine.

My wife's sister was once married to a fellow who ran monitors and sometimes did the mixing for top-tier bands. He had a reputation for being solid and reliable, which found him working with many a performer doing world tours. It often meant backstage passes and resulted in one of my prized possessions, an autograph from George Harrison (when he came out of retirement to tour with Eric Clapton back in 1991). He was truly pleasant, willing to chat, but I just stood there tongue tied. Still kicking myself for being such a klutz. In retrospect, I guess I should have asked what audio equipment he liked.

As for actually knowing a performing musician, my college buddy plays pedal steel guitar for Blue Rodeo, who have long been mainstays of the Canadian music scene. Another college friend is working on the campaign committee of Barak Obama, who is touted as a candidate for US president in the next election. Then I look at myself and ask where the hell my life went wrong.:scratch2:

In 1968, I accidentally bumped into Richard Nixon across from Union Square in SF (somehow slipped through the security line) as he exited his hotel.

A little old lady looked at me from behind the line and said forcefully, "Well, aren't you going to DO something?!"

I've never been sure what she was expecting.

.....well, Guys, not to brag, but I've been abducted by Aliens four times....one of them there Mother Ships had a really good McIntosh setup....would I lie?......

When I was in high school I worked at Corn Dog On A Stick and sold Bill and Chelsea Clinton corndogs and lemonade. I wonder who, errrr what he did with that corndog?!?

In 1983, I got into a fistfight with Al Jourgensen, the lead singer of Ministry. He was really really high so it was an easy fight :boxing:.

My first two years of college, I was the booking agent for the university programming board. I booked comedians. I booked Jay Leno (twice), Richard Lewis, and Jimmy Walker. Jay was a very nice man... he took me to dinner both times and I drove him around town. I was the MC for him both times he performed... I basically told a few jokes, introduced the opening act, told a few more jokes, and then introduced Jay.

He helped me with some pointers on stand-up and helped me get into the comedy clubs in Chicago. I was only 18 and could not get into any big clubs because of my age. I used to practice at college open mics and small club/bar open mics. Jay thought I had some talent so he called his friends who ran the big clubs and asked if they would let me in to watch. He thought it was important for me to study other comedians until I could develop my own personality. I got to see a lot of local stand-ups and some national ones like a young Jerry Sienfeld and Chris Rock.

In 1988, two years after the last time I booked Jay, some of my friends and I went to Daytona for spring break. Jay was performing at the civic center and the show was sold out. I told my college friends that I knew him. They did not believe me. We went to the civic center front window the night of the show and I asked if they would pass a note back to Jay. They did. Ten minutes later, a manager said we could go in (for free), that Jay wanted us to have good seats, and that we could go backstage afterwards. My friends were in awe.

After the show, we went backstage and Jay greeted me by name. He asked about how college was and if I was still doing stand-up. He also asked how my mom was. My friends were in awe. He talked to them and signed autographs. It was a great night. Leno went on to replace Carson and I never amounted to much of a stand-up.

I never saw or talked to him again. I doubt he would remember me now. It has been 17 years.

My last three years of college and part of grad school, I booked bands... mainly indie bands, but I met a lot of cool musicians (I lived in Athens, GA for grad school).

My sister was the lead singer and lyricist for the semi-famous etheral pop band - The Moon Seven Times. Google them or do an allmusic.com search.

John
