AR 2AX Question

Hey all:

Just picked up a pair of these for $20 (like I need more speakers...) Cabinets are dirty but pretty much intact, not much serious damage to the veneer ... I think they'll clean up nice with maybe a little steel wool. Grille cloth is a loss, drivers look like crap but that seems to be the case with all early AR drivers regardless of their actual condition :D

The woofers have foam surrounds which are shot, so I'll be refoaming them. My question: I always thought this era of AR's had cloth surrounds; do the foam surrounds on these suggest replacement woofers? Or is this a later model run of the 2AX? My only prior experience is a pair of original 4's which have the treated cloth surrounds.

Thanks!

Roy

The 2ax line went to foam surrounds in the very early 70s. Which tweeter do they have? The 1" dome?

With the foamed woogers, the tweets are most likely the 3/4" paper domes. Very nice speakers regardless of which model!

Roypercy, $20 is very sweet indeed for these! Enjoy :music:

If you decide to shim when you refoam, contact AR-guy, he should have the correct replacement dustcaps.
