AR-3a Woofer replacement alternative

The Mavin EM-Tl3006Y-4 woofer, "is a 12", 4 ohm, 250 watt driver high output driver"; it is claimed to be an "Acoustic Research replacement". It also lists: "Rated SPl is a minimum 90 dB through the practical frequency range, which is 30 Hz. to 3800 Hz. The SPL drops to 89.4 dB at 20 Hz."

The woofer's URL: https://www.mavin.com/store.php/fea...-drop-in-replacement-for-acoustic-research-ar

Is this an actual good AR 3a woofer replacement?

I had hoped to buy my replacements from 'www.simplyspeakers.com' but their webpage for "12" Genuine Acoustic Research Woofer, AR3a, AR9, Others, 12100032" states they are now discontinued. None to buy now...

Also, almost forgot to mention this one: On *bay there is a listing for "ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR3 SPEAKER WOOFER , MODEL 5-11-009-1"...it claims to be an AR product but it does not seem to be (IMO). Is this a valid AR-3a alternative?

What would be a good source for AR-3a replacements--woofers, tweeters, and mid-ranges--any ideas?

I would do some more searching. Maybe you can find another AR-3a that is trash but the woofer is still good.

RoyC is the guru here on AR stuff. Way too many options on mids and
tweets to try remembering them. I don't think there's an accurate new
replacement for the woofer (yet). Used ones come up fairly regularly on
ebay, and yours might be repairable.

That is true for the Mavin woofer...there is a note from a previous customer that states:
This woofer may fit SOME Acoustic Research speaker enclosures, but it is NOT drop in ready for the classic and BEST speaker system that I own. The AR-3A woofer is slightly less than 12" in diameter and the basket has opposing beveled edges...

To use the Mavin in AR 3a cabinet one would need woodworking skills to get to work as the previous customer indicated.

So the Mavin is off the list now.
