AR/XA ..am I missing a part ?

Bought the TT in piture 1, no arm. Looking at the arm in Picture 2 however, is there supposed to be a part that sticks up through the plinth attached to the T-Bar or does the arm pictured just fit in the hole? The manual makes me think something is missing...but it is not clear

BTW..I know

I know the grace 707 makes a good replacement arm for this...what about the 747? Thanks
 
Looks like it's OK, the arm just drops in the hole. Should be a small ball bearing at the bottom of the hole. Don't think that is the original arm rest.

That's an AR XB arm rest, which AR sold as an XA service part toward the end of the XA's model run. The tonearm in Rob's picture appears to be from an XA-91, so it lacks the damping cylinder that slowed the arm's motion if the user dropped it (and which never worked very well at low tracking forces anyway). The arm fits directly into the hole in the T-bar. Make sure the ball bearing is there, as Cadillac Kid noted, and lubricate the arm post with 20W engine oil.

But more than likely do the Grace 707 arm change. I want that turntable to look like "whoa...what happend" ...Sort of the Eliza Doolittle story...

I've seen some XAs without the damping cylinder, so that arm could very well be original on an XA with the walnut veneer base. I have one of each -- an XA with the walnut veneer base and a damping cylinder on the arm, and an XA-91 with walnut-grained vinyl on the base and no cylinder on the arm.

Makes sense...Long time sir...The DJ table, the Cap upgrade worked..good news...the turntable came out like crap (bad paint job) so I scrapped and canabalized (the table, not a person)...lol

I really do plan on doing the grace upgrade...THAT kind of work I can do and as far as making that table look new again...THAT is right up my alley....I get thrown more with the electronic end of things...but getting better..

I have successfully soldered 1 cap (backwards the first time...lol)
And now 4 resistors...woohooo
 
I was watching that AR on the Bay. Kinda ugly, but if you install an arm and it works, great deal. I think you scored.
 
Yeah I was outbid...may let it go as I want the grace...btw..he wants over 50 for the headshell....
