AR3 or AR3a ID needed

Picked this lonely AR speaker up at an auction for nearly nothing this evening. I want to make it a pair, but need to know what I am looking for. It looks like an AR3 to me, but I dont know whether it is an AR3 or an AR3a.

Maybe it is neither. Input welcomed.

My vote is an early 3A with an earlier style cloth woofer. Probably using up old stock at the factory during the switch over?

You have the earlier 3a with the more desirable Alnico cloth surround woofer. Don't be surprised if you get little or no output from the mid or tweeter. The pots are notorious for corroding, blocking the signal to the drivers. If this is the case, turn them back and forth a lot, and you may find a sweet spot. Regardless, it's good to pull them for cleaning and inspection. Plenty of threads covering the process.
So now you need to find a mate, these are fabulous speakers once recapped and restored.

Thanks everyone. So if I buy a non early 3a, is it just a woofer swap to match my current one, or is it more involved? I assume I may have trouble finding a single of the right vintage since mine was made during the transition?

Crossovers are different but can be done. You do have a 3a badge on the grill. The AR3 grill cloth is different and the tweeter is different. There is not a lot of early 3a's so you may get lucky or wait a long time to find one. I am guessing with fixing your current one and finding one that will also need work will run you close to $500 or more. Good luck.
 
Early cloth surround 3as aren't all that rare. They were made from 1967 to late 1969. I have a pair with serial numbers around 36,000.

Finding another single is going to take some luck, though.
 
I want to change the cream capacitor. Is there anyone can help me choose the close one.
