I have Sony SSU-1800's that were built (and I strongly suspect designed) in California...

And KEFs that were designed back in Kent but assembled or constructed here so I'll accept partial credit for those.

Jeez, I can't believe you guys left out Bohlender-Graebner, ESS and Cizek. I guess the latter two are defunct.:tears:

Oh, I wouldn't go so far as to say that all of the best speakers are (were) made in USA, but there have been an awful lot of exceptionaly good speakers made here, and certainly some of the very best.

I never thought that (most) Japanese speakers were all that good. I think that maybe it was because speakers take up a lot of space on the boat. I remember technics speakers had a label that said cabinets made in USA with foreign components. You could get more money for other audio gear that was more profitable, but took up less space. Speakers after all are mostly air.

Getting in late on this, but MANY of the finest speakers were and are American. One brand I don't recall seeing on the list is Soundlab, from Utah. Their Majestic series would challenge anything from anywhere. Also, while the old Genesis was mentioned, Genesis Audio Technologies (Arnie Nudell just left them recently) certainly is also making absolutely world class speakers. IMHO, the BEST American speakers are now made by Soundlab, Wilson, Avalon, and Genesis (with all due respect to Thiel, Magnepan, Krell, etc.)

image masters made by island sound ltd. great sounding speakers.very heavy cabinets, lots of bass and decent highs.
i cannot find any info on these anywhere.

Although I mainly use speakers from Europe now (Vienna Acoustics, Dali, B&W, etc.) my favorite still remains American - Allision Acoustics. I still own a pair of Allison Three speakers in my living room. Huge sound stage, natural sound, never takes up space (these are corner speakers). It's a shame that the company does not exist anymore.

I've always appreciated the golden age JBL stuff, and just recently I picked up a pristine pair of L-150s. I wouldn't hesitate to say that they are some of the best all around speakers that I've ever heard. I can only imagine how great L-300s must be.
