Are newer JBL bookshelf speakers any good?

I'm considering JBL bookshelf speakers to put on 24" Target Audio stands to use with a McIntosh C37 preamp I own plus an undetermined power amp (possibly Hafler or Crown in the $300 used price range). Anyway back to the speakers, which late model or a little older JBL monitors would you recommend for stand mounting?

As a JBL owner for over fifty-years, I have to ask what you mean by "newer"?

And how large can you handle? You won't need any stands if you use the JBL L5. The L112 or 4412 might be a bit large for your stands but they're great speakers. The L96 and 4410 are only an inch-or-so smaller in cabinet size. The ten and twelve-inch three-ways are fine speakers but those will range from 30-years-old to ten-years old. I know of no current models that would fit the bill, though their powered monitors are supposedly very good but are also priced commensurate with their reputation.
:dunno:

Some newer (21st century) JBL's

No price range determined, but definitely not the higher end Array series.
I used to own the vintage 4312 and it was just OK to me, but didn't overwhelm me. The newer 4312D available in Japan seems nicer though.
The recommendation of the newer LS40 and Studio 530 do seem very interesting to me. Reviews seem nice too.

Mjcmt, tried sending you a reply to your question regarding Sony rosewood panels, but got an error. Reads that you are not setup to receive email???.

jbl es

Hi, in my opinion, don't buy JBL ES, the sound is just ok, but the L serie is far far better

I've been wondering about the L 830's, any good? Seems more like a 2-way in reality. Would they enhance SACD quality having the HF capability? Love to know more if anyone has had experience with these --- using rather vintage 100 W receiver.

I bought of set of L830's for my "then" wife a couple of years ago. Hooked 'em up to a Marantz 2240B. I liked them so much that I immediately ordered another pair for myself. I am driving them with a Marantz 2235B as we speak.

The good news is that I'm now divorced...and the REALLY good news is that I still have MY set of L830's.

I have a set of 4311's, two sets of 4312's and two sets of 4312A's. But I feel that the L830's are in the same league as all those other monitors. Nice and warm when driven with a Marantz receiver.

Highly recommended!

If you were underwhelmed with previous JBL's why are you asking about them now? It would seem to make more sense to look at another manufacturer based on your history.

I would take all reviews with a grain of salt. Trust your own ears, not someone else's.

FWIW: I feel the same as you about the 4312's
