Audio Cassette Deck makes "skipping" sound

Hello, I am new to this forum and hifi in general so this might be a stupid question.

I got an audio cassette deck that makes this awkward skipping noise. :tears: I made this video using my phone camera where you can clearly hear it. What is this sound? Can't be normal, right?

May be a defect idler tire. You need to tell us the model # if you want us to help. You can resurface the idler with course sandpaper or install a new tire. You would need to measure the old one if you want to install a new one.

It is a Denon DR-M22.

The audio was so poor on the video it was hard to tell, sounds like something dragging on rotary parts. Open it up and observe.

Remove the plate behind the cassette well and observe the idler wheel. It may be slipping and the source of the noise. Resurface or replace.

I opened the cassette well and applied lubricant to the two drive shafts. It seems that was enough to remove the skipping noise. :yes: Except for having difficulty with assembling the eject mechanism (it required some patience, but I inally got it) it was rather easy. Thanks for the help, guys.

Do you mean the capstan bearings? Not sure what you mean by 'drive shafts'. It's not likely at all that the capstan bearings would cause that noise. Perhaps the washers on the capstan shafts were misplaced and rubbing on the cassette shell.
