Audio equipment you wish you still had.

Haven't sold much, but I did sell a pristine set of Infinity RS-1b's. I already had another pair of RS-b's which I still own but they are not as mint as that pair I sold.

Audio equipment I wish I still had? No, not really. My problem rather is audio gear, that I still have and of which I'd wish, that it would still work (without the need for investing work or/and money). So I'd actually wish there would be an affordable magic wand for that purpose. :)

Greetings from Munich!

Magic wand? Weller is not that expensive.

Kenwood Basic C1 preamp. I got it for $10 at a thrift. I remember it had a nice phono section and smooth tone controls - including a variable loudness knob. Also, I recall being surprised how transparent it was (I had Magnepans at the time). Regrettably, I sold it to downsize from separates.

This one - my Marantz 4240... I restored it, and it was mint condition... I still wonder WHY I sold it ! Notrhing else than a mistake, for sure.

Hmmm, I regret selling my Sony TA-2000F. It sounded nice when I got it, but when I got my C26, I figured I didn't need another preamp. So I sold it for what I paid for it. The problem is that I cleaned it the morning before the buyer arrived, and it sounded excellent! So my regret is that I never got the opportunity to properly know it.

I also regret selling both my Kenwood Supreme 500 and 600. I have yet to hear another integrated amp that can sound so good with such controlled power! And man, they have tripled in value since I sold mine!

Finally, my first cassette deck melted in a fire. Luckily I got out. Saved by my ex's grandmother! I actually have a thread ongoing trying to identify what it was. I really don't remember, and I have no pictures of it. I think it was similar to the Sansui SC-1330 only in silver or similar to the Pioneer CT-F850. But if I could get it back, that would answer my nagging question. Timeline was about right.

Everyone either regrets selling a piece of gear or maybe lost it in a fire, got stolen, or lost it at a storage facility.
Here’s my list of items I wish I still had and/or miss:

A Pioneer SX-780 receiver in pristine condition with original box/manual that I regret selling.
Klipsch KG3.5 speaker’s that I sold with the original boxes.
A pair of ADS L470 that I gave to my eldest son.
Technics SA-900 receiver that I sold.
Alpine 7909 CD tuner head unit.

Share any audio related gear you wish you still had.
Probably the Sony TC-RX77ES cassette deck I owned in 2006. Worked perfectly. Granted, by now, it would need new belts, possibly a new capstan motor, so will just find one that has been overhauled. Probably will swap one in place of the TC-RX606ES that we have currently, which needs work.

Other gear:

The STR-6120 that I retired in 2008, due to MPX coil, power switch, and tuning dial string issues; and the Ortofon M20FL cartridge from my old Dual 1009SK. Nothing else, really.

The stack of CD’s that fell out of my car back in the late 90’s. I was in a rush and helping a friend move. It was the end of the day and I rushed to the gas station to put a few bucks of gas in.

I must have knocked the CD carrying case out of the car as I getting out to pump gas and I was so tired from all the moving that I didn’t notice until later that the CDs were gone

I lost a lot of great CD’s in a span of a few minutes.

My dad had set of Advent Legacy speakers that had the typical bad foam surrounds. He had a stroke out of the blue about 9 years ago at 60 yesrs old and ended up having to sell our childhood home and move into a nursing home. The speakers got thrown into a dumpster when the house was emptied. I didn't realize how easy it was to refoam a woofer and figured they'd require replacement. They're nothing special, and I'll buy a pair at some point for the basement for nostalgia sake...but they'll never be my dad's set. I do however have all his vinyl along with his 90s pioneer receiver and equalizer. You can't keep it all I guess...

Glad to hear you still have some of his gear. As you said, you can’t keep it all.

I find myself missing the Technics SU-V707 that I had. I bought it for "parts and repair" off of the Bay. The speaker selector switch was bad and I fixed that and it worked. But it was never 100%. The switch for tone controls broke so I just put it back in but it didn't work. Also the balance was a bit off. But it did sound wonderful. When I moved I just gave it away to a local tech. And when I stopped in to speak with him the other day he had obviously moved it on. I gave him all of the parts to fix the broken switch and also the broken speaker connectors on the back. I really don't need it because I now have an MCS 3872 that does the job. But I miss it. Right now I would love to find one in black.

I guess these days I just don't get too attached to stuff. But it would have been cool if that unit was fully functioning and serviced. I never got there...

I had an unmarked dual mono power amp that was probably a diy project. A massive, heavy thing with huge heatsinks on both sides and what looked like deliciously oversized components.

Its audio output sounded pretty damn good. But it had a buzz internally and at the time I had no patience to get it fixed, nor the skill to even contemplate looking into it myself. I should have known better. Wish that I at least had made some pictures so I could have found out more about it retrospectively.

Oh well.

BmWr75...I had always liked the sound of EPI 100s. Seeing the schematic for the crossover of the 70 reveals the secret...simplicity. Had I bought them back in the day, I might still own them, but I never bought them. I did have Dynaco A25s and later a second pair that I used with the first pair in stacked configuration. I balanced a Philips clear plastic 1" tweeter on top of them, crossed over at ~10kHz. Ohhhh, so airy!

I wish I had another 1980 Ortofon M20FL Super MM cart ... for when mine finally wears out. I've really kinda slowed down in playing LPs just not to wear the cart out. Got about 275-300 max hours on it now. It sounds so fine. It really lets the music on M- albums play and sound live, alive, real, and honest. I will miss it.

I play a lot of CDs nowadays anyway. M- CD are all over the place. I rarely ever listen to my other CDs, it's always like a new album I've never heard before. Been getting kind of lucky on LPs too lately, but it really has slowed down finding M- LPs now. Sometimes you score on something really fine! Crate Digging!!

It's all good!!
