FULLY SERVICED!!

Yep, that means they sprayed some WD40 (or whatever other can of schmoo that they had on hand) on the filthy rag that they did a really sloppy job of wiping the unit down with. No replaced tubes, no replaced components, no bench tests performed, no bill from a service shop....at best, just some extremely vague reference to "just got the unit back from some guy who really knows his ****!".

I took a shot at a definition and included it in the original glossary page. If anyone wants to offer suggestions, please post them.

Kabuki - A derisive term for speakers built with multiple drivers, one of which is usually at least 12" to 15." Such speakers usually appear to have been built for the impressive appearance rather than impressive sound.
A perfect example would be Bose 901's

kabuki means a homemade speaker with excess drivers made in the era where kids did stuff like that because of the absence of social media and smartphones.

@BrigitteM Welcome to AK! I have not heard Bose 901s referred to as Kabuki - an interesting take.

Since there is some disagreement, I submit that the Coral BX-1200 embodies Kabuki. It was a design and sound style (VERY midrange forward) that was popular in Japan, said to be before they heard Ohm Walshs, if you believe it.

A pic like this should be in the dictionary under Kabuki Speaker. Just to eliminate any doubt, I owned a pair of these until I gutted them and turned them into Franken-EPI 120s. These are the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard.

I know it's been a little over a year, but I just saw this now and it's a perfect description. :rflmao:

I suppose I should have quantified that statement as:
A perfect example would be; "Listening to a pair of Bose 901's without the required Bose EQ". Not a pleasant experience at all......
Btw? I've actually been on AK for several years... I just do a lot more reading than commenting.....
