Audio Lab Speakers

I'm currently assembling a new set of speakers for my entertainment system. I'm embarrassed to say the speakers I've been using were cheapos Circuit City "threw in" when I bought my Denon receiver. A year later, I replaced the mains with a pair of 3-ways I found at a yard sale called Audio Lab-- no obvious model number. Now, with my renewed interest in stereo equipment, I tried to trace some sort of history on the brand, but no luck. Is anyone familiar with Audio Lab? I'm suspecting it's another one of those white van specials.

It does seem to me that many of these white van clunkers include words like "Lab" and "Research" in an attempt to gain consumer trust. These loose terms are a tipoff, in my opinion. Never heard of "Audio Lab" speakers.

Pictures might help, if only because I think I remember a well regarded british electronics firm of that name. Seeing what they look like might be a clue to white van or specialist manufacturer identification. Of course sound might too -- how are they?

They don't sound particularly remarkable. As for pictures, I don't have a digital camera, so it would require the time of taking 35mm shots, waiting for Cosco to deliver the pics with a CD, etc. The fact that there are no model numbers or manufacturer info is suspicious enough. Thought I'd ask here as a last-ditch attempt.

I just scored a pair of DCM TF275's for $26 and think I'll replace the Audio Labs with these.

There was a rather well respected audio store in the Boston area of that name but I doubt they'd have done a house brand but 1 never knows considering the area was full of speaker manufacturers.

Audio Lab one of the best in the day . I miss mine, got stolen. Were made by what is called Polk Audio very respectable. Ran em at 4 ohm took it all day long

Sorry to bring up an old post but i am also looking for Info on Audio Lab speakers, i had a pair back in the day(late 70's) and they were NOT white Van speakers i bought them from a trusted well respected dealer/chain. .. Does anyone have any new info or pics ? i believe the ones i had were three way with a 12" woof and honestly cannot remember much more except they sounded awesome and yes they were made for the British company by the same name that is still in business .

In 1981 I bought a pair of speakers from Fretter appliance that were called Audio Lab by Fisher. I liked them quite a bit at the time.

Are you sure they weren't Studio Lab by Fisher? I've seen them.

Hey there! Found this old post and wanted to add to it!! I have AL speakers! Here’s the 14 year old answer! My stepdad got these in 1980??? They really rocked and still do. They do shut down by fuse if they get turned up too loud.

That's an circuit breaker...not a fuse. It helped to reduce warranty repairs.

I used to see these hanging in bars and restaurants, but never really thought much about them. The sound didn't attract my attention. They always looked good.

i still have my old Audio Lab by Fisher.....I too bought them from ol Ollie Fretter. I didnt get the 5lbs of coffee!

They are model AL-316....15" woofer.

2 questions;
The woofer need flex foam surrounds re-foamed.....worth it to bother on these speakers?

Would removing the circuit breaker detrimental in i replace with new auto reset breakers?
