Behold: The Technics SB-LX50

Damn these speakers suck

Okay, well maybe that is being a little harsh. They have a good range, the highs are pretty good and the bass is definitely there. But it sounds like someone took the sound, popped it in a 5 ton press, and just left it there. It's so cramped. The imaging is decent, but definitely not clear at all. Also, they are inefficient as hell. And they need to be loud to sound good at all, so i have my volume at 12 just for casual listening.

But i got them for 20$, so i don't really care about the above. I needed a pair of speakers to last me a few weeks till i upgrade to something in the $400 range (blew the coil on my other, much better, speakers). Can't wait :)

Probably you need a more powerful amp to wake up these speakers. I notice you are using a Sony 7055 receiver. This is a good receiver but may not have the juice for these speakers. Sometimes we draw the wrong conclusion about an equipment not realising that it is not properly matched.

Yes, i am using the sony as a preamp, driving the speakers is my sherwood s-6040 100 watts per channel mosfet :P I have enough power methinks.\

(thanks for the heads up though)

Light weight black cabs, gold colored plastic beauty rings around the drivers, simple looking paper cone tweet... i could have told you those would suck from here. :D

Yeah, but what else was he going to get in Brooklyn with only $20? Poor kid..

Yo! How about some real Brooklyn speakers? Rectilinear III (okay, they're from the Bronx. Sue me.) or maybe a pair of Ohm FRS-11?

Seriously, those are a little too big to fit that windowsill. I was going to recommend a pair of KRK Rockit 5 powered monitors, but then your new Sherwood would have nothing to do except possibly drive a pair of Stax Lambda electrostats.

They didn't sell for much when new. Technics had a 10" two-way, 12" and 15" three-way versions. You described what all of them sounded like, only the 15" had very ponderous bass. I only know this because a AV/Appliance store was next to our store in the 80's and 90's and carried them.

Well i am in the market for a pair of floorstandings that will go against the wall on the other side of the room. Still shopping around.
