Bell Sound Systems Chalet Model 540 Console

I bought this console yesterday and it weighs quite a bit more than a Magnavox Imperial. The amp isn't lighting up but hopefully it's a simple fix.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that it has a reel to reel. I still haven't got it unloaded. I was waiting for my sons but one hurt his knee and the other one hasn't stopped by yet. They usually visit on a Sunday.

When I was a teenager I had my Dads old Bell receiver set up in the garage running on one speaker. It looks a lot like the upper portion of yours but I forget what the tuner part looked like. It was wide but not very tall. Foolishly I trash canned it when it started giving me trouble. Today I know a simple cleaning of the controls is all it needed.
Is there any place that shows all the models of the receivers? I think the driver was a 12" Wolvereen. Just going from memory as it's been 40 years or so.

The reciever looks a lot like my 66 Fairlane gauge cluster.

Check fuses?

It was late last night when I finally got it unloaded and I did check the main fuse in the back and it was good.

I don't know if this has all of them but it has some.

It does doesn't it. I'm a big fan of the 66/67 Fairlane. I have a 66 Mustang Fastback and a 69 Cougar Convertible.

The reel to reel is very heavy and has two fairly big OTs.

Thanks for the link, the 2521 model with the electronic tuning bar is it. Kick myself for tossing it out now, it was pretty cool. Oh well, at the time tubes were history and solid state was the thing to have. Now I have both and cherish my old Mac MC40 mono blocks.

Oh, so YOU'RE the lucky buyer who ended up with this. LOL.
I kept watching the price drop on Craigslist here in Columbus for weeks, but couldn't justify the purchase since I already own 2 other consoles. Love the fact that they were made right here in town - up near the Anheiser-Busch brewery if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, congrats!

Thanks. I had to make a long trip to get it and he charged me $5.00 more for the paperwork that he had but overall I'm very satisfied with it. I think it's going to make a nice piece but it'll be awhile before I can work on it.

I did get a chance to mess with it a bit so I hooked a power cord into the electrical outlet in the amp and it came to life! It is either a bad power cord or a bad connection inside. Easy fix. The amp had a low hum without anything fed into it so I turned it back off until I can change some parts out.

There are a couple things I noticed while looking at it. It has two phono hookups. It has one for a ceramic cart and another for a magnetic cart. The other is that where the speakers are hooked to the amp one side is hooked to a 4 ohm connection and the other side is hooked to an 8 ohm connection. The speakers look the same on both sides so I'm guessing that somebody made a mistake. If somebody knows if this is actually a correct hookup please let me know.

identical speakers should hook to the same terminals. Now you just have to figure out what is correct for your speaker set.
