Beogram 9000 here

What a great forum and discussion area. Glad I found you.
I’ve got a B&O 9000, very clean in and out but with some issues. Lid doesn’t open or close all the way and the platter doesn’t seem right. Or the arm. It skips through the first quarter of an album but then seems to track okay. Brand new SoundSmith MMC3 stylus. Still trying to locate a spec sheet or something (somebody) to steer me in the direction of troubleshooting. I just moved a couple of months ago and thought I had this TT packed sufficiently. But finicky the B&O units are.
But holy crap I feel so small reading the collections of turntables some of y’all have!
Sign me 68 year old grandpa, still with good ear for music!

A photo or two would help. You positive its not and 8000 series? I was wrong it may be a 9000.

It seems that when the needle starts and drops to the album, it never makes it actually into the album. I can send it in farther and it’ll play. The first quarter of the album it’ll skip repeatedly in the same groove but if I move it. In halfway on the album. It plays just fine. I have the slider on the arm, moved all the way forward, figuring that transfer is a little weight to the stylus.

Actually, this is how far it gets in before it starts playing without skipping. It doesn’t get there on it so now I have to manually move it.IMG_8290.jpeg

When it’s spinning, it seems like there’s a little wow in one place. I’m pretty sure I’ve got all of the three transit screws undone all the way. It’s hard to tell.

Hey big2bird, thanks for the reply but I really doubt it’s the stylus. It’s something to do with the platter not spinning true. The SMMC3 is a good stylus.
They serviced, repaired my 4002 some years back. They "may" still do that work.

I don't know anything about this table but linear tracking is notorious for issues with tone arm movement. Lube is usually the biggest issue, it gets hard and things don't move smoothly. I haven't cleaned one up in years but I used to get everything exposed and do a deep dive cleaning.

It scares me to death to get inside of there. My 68 year old eyesight and hand movement isn’t as good as it used to be! I suppose there is nowhere to be found the schematic of how everything goes together. The lid is stuck to where it doesn’t go all the way down or doesn’t go all the way up. I think that will be the first thing I tackle. If that works out than I may get bold and dive deeper!

Here’s something I hadn’t thought of previously. I’ve been purchasing 180 g vinyl’s. One would assume the disc is thicker. Would that have any impact on the playability?

I think I’ve worked up the want to check on if that linear tracking tone arm is dragging from lack of lubrication. If I clean the track that the arm travels on, do I re-lube it with something? What would be the best lubricant to use?

I use Napa Sil-Glyde on linear trackers, although I never worked on or even saw a Beogram since the 1970s. Very cool TTs.
