I call that a very nice score! Not a STEAL but way under value for the 2205 and C-28 ALONE if in nice condition.

Congrats and Enjoy!

I just missed out a couple weeks ago on a MC150 for $850, a MX130 for $850, and a week later an MC2600 for $1000.

I ended up getting a STEAL from a friend, I got an MX132, MC7205 and a BRAND NEW WK4 keypad (to go on ebay) for $1500 TOTAL!!!!! I also got an MC150 for $1200 that I consider a decent deal.

I am really enjoying my new Mc system.
D'ya think? I like vintage Marantz, but I guarantee the McIntosh system sounds better.
Enjoy it now; except for the tuner, you have probably launched yourself on an insidious upgrade slope to "that little bit better". As you can tell, I'm somewhat envious of your incredible score.

I got my MC2300 for 1100 Shipped off Criaigslist and it is perfect. Really love that amp, just got a couple little gremlins to iron out. :)

Who is "Craig"? And why is his list so good in pricing?

Is he a dealer of sorts (used)?

Anyone here care to explain? I am puzzled!

Hi Serge & Automojo,

I now understand. Foolish me .... sorry for this "country bumpkin" lack of exposure and knowledge!

Cheers.

P/S - Serge, U got your IWC Big Ingienuer? I am getting a very tempting deal for a PG 7 Days! Thinking, just thinking ......... Sigh, so little dough, so much toys desires!

Yes, a while ago. :thmbsp:

The MC2205 was the Generation-II solid state Mc amp, "the NEW McIntosh Amplifiers." It's got that big wicked sound, power guard circuits, autotransformers, and is squarely in the `heavy power amp´ category. After 30 years on the planet they'll likely need servicing such as lube, cleaning and Cal.

The MR78 could be one of the finest McIntosh tuners ever made. It has three IF bandwidth settings (selectivity) for FM DX'ing. It's FM Stereo only and the last of the analog tuners, IIRC. A very good catch. I'd recommend a high-gain outdoor antenna with rotator, something on the order of 7 to 10 elements.

The C28 perhaps is behind the other two in technology. You may want to run it for a while and then look for a matching Mc preamp. IMHO, the C28 was the ultimate '60s design' preamp (came out in 1970) of the 33-RPM vinyl era.

I bought a pair of 2ci new since they were much like the Thiel in coherent, impulse response philosophy. The cabinet IMHO violates one of the prime rules of loudspeakers in that external dowels have a resonance function that is added to all music. IOW you can hear the `cabinet component´ but that may be pleasing to some.

All in all a great find. :)

Big Wicked Sound, ok, you need to elaborate on this, I am just curious since I have a pair running my big JBL's. What I hear does not exactly fit your description but I am still learning. The 2205's are a big improvement over 2105's which I had earlier.

I think I beat you on this one:

Craigslist ad for an estate sale said McIntosh for $25 each. They had a C28 and MR74, I bought them both for a total of $50. They both need glass :( but the price was well worth it!

Great find. I think estate sale are the way to go. A friend got a pair of mint bose 901 with stand and eq for $30 a year ago

A garage man got a pair of those for free out of my trash can in the 90s. I was given them before the days of EBAY, talk about a CRAP speaker.
