Best looking McIntosh component currently in production (picture poll)

Hey guys,

I'm experimenting with a new fun way to do polls with pictures. Pretty pointless to have pics for most audio equipment (since most audio is butt ugly and non-descript), but I think most McHeads think that looks DO matter. And I know that McIntosh itself does care. Heck, my jaw dropped when I saw the MC2301 in person at Magnolia - DARN WHAT A LOOKER!

You can look at the pretty pics and vote on your favorite at the link below:

Picture poll Best Looking McIntosh Component currently in production.

If I missed a modern component that should be in the list, you can add it yourself - just click on the "Suggest additional choice", but please pick a pretty picture (using the built in search function).

P.S. I cast the first vote and voted for the MC2301. I am still in shock and awe about it.

I saw and heard the 2301s with the SF Stradivarius on Tuesday. They are beautiful. I would probabably choose the 1.2kws though for the giant meters though.

Tell me how did they sound together? I am seriously considering a pair of Strads for my 2301's.

Well it was after listening to the MC2kw and XRT2K, so that system has stuck in my mind more.

They make beautiful music together and the midrange detail was incredible. You should definitely give them an audition.

Will do, the 2K's are a little mind bending.

Thanks

Maybe I'm the odd guy out, but I wasn't impressed.

The mid range was too much at times (maybe it was too loud...), and the voices didn't hit you the way they should. The tweeter sounded like it was overloaded at times. (Again maybe too loud.) The only thing that impressed me, was that the soundstage was big. (SO big, that you couldn't pin point where the vocals.)

If you're used to McIntosh line array speakers it's kind hard to like another speaker...

I voted for the MC275.

You should have put up a pic with the tube cage off, I think the MC275 looks much better with the cage off and would get more votes that way.

I'd have to say the MC2KW or the MC2000. I cannot believe the MC275 is in the lead....but I'd sure love to have one...my dad had one he bought in 1968.

275 cage on or off

I voted for the MC275.

My bad about the cage, but it seems that the 275 is still king of the hill anyway :-).

For the longest time I only saw the 275 only in pictures and was not too impressed, but when I saw in person I thought it looked great ... but I still think that the 2301 are the most awesome looking piece of tube equipment I've ever seen - and I hear that they don't sound too shabby eithe :music:.

I like the looks of the MC2301 the best. It's got that attention grabber look.

I also like the 275. I like it on a functional beauty level. To me it's very functional looking which brings to mind a mental image of an old piece of machinery that you could look at in amazement while it runs.

To me the 275 is like the steam locomotive of stereo. That is a compliment, not a negative comment.

You left out the 501s but I voted for the 2301s anyway. McIntosh did a great stylistic job on those. Sort of a "beauty and the beast" with the way the handles and front glass say big SS but the tubes also show the softer side promising musical performance with absolute control over the speakers. :thmbsp:

New TOP contender

To make up for the MC275 with cage picture faux-pas, I've added a picture of the MC275 commemorative edition WITHOUT a cage.

flynQ lets you change your vote, so check it out and I have a feeling that the commemorative MC275 will give the MC2301 a run for the money :-).

Here's the link to see the updated contenders list and change your vote if you like the cageless 275 :-) - flynQ link.

I Serge,

I left out the 501s only because I thought that, as good looking as they are, their "bigger brothers" would always win. Also, the idea is that people can add their own choices and pics if their preference is not there.

mcintoshaddict,

Where did you hear the Sonus Faber Stradivari?

Oh, i'll pick the 1.2KW's

Oops.. I stand corrected.. the speaker I heard on Tuesday was a new Vienna Acoustics speaker. (Gaucho1 had said he heard them Tuesday, which I thought he meant Tuesday night.) The Sonus Faber Stradivari is the speaker they normally have connected to the 2301s. I would agree they sound better.
