Big Vintage Audio Emporium in Syracuse

I never thought I'd see the day... Some of the empty space in Shoppingtown Mall in Syracuse has been filled by a pretty well stocked reseller of vintage audio. I've bought two pieces from one of the owners off CraigsList previously, so he invited me up. Very nice guy, willing to deal.

The store is called HionFi, and as you can see from the pix they have a decent variety of silver receivers (I saw Sansui, Pioneer, a couple of Yamaha, NICE Fisher 500c and 800c, others), Original Advent, KLH, Klipsch speaks along with a very nice pair of AR3's etc. Not much in the way of Turntables, though I did score some cheap used vinyl. Most impressive was a set of gorgeous KLH Model Nine electrostatic speakers, first time I've seen/heard them. A little soft on the highs but really good sounding.

I thought prices were pretty reasonable, less than FleaBay more than BT here on AK. The KLH Nines are $900, way rich for my blood but a good price for the shape they're in.

No affiliation beyond what I said above, but would love to see these guys survive and thrive. Cool to see our hobby get some big time exposure!

Very nice...I wish them all the luck. I've toyed with the notion of opening a shop like that some day, but I'm not convinced it'll work. What I wouldn't give to see a shop like that open up in a mall near me. Even if I couldn't afford anything at full retail, it'd be a great place to stop in to browse, and meet like-minded people. Hope this catches on. Beats the hell out of yet another clothing/shoe/cell phone store.

Nice looking store. I would be concerned about the overhead and keeping fresh merchandise. But I hope they make it. Looks like a great fun store for those of us who enjoy this stuff.

Stop at HionFi, maybe Dinosaur BBQ, and catch a Cuse bball game....could make for a great weekend!

Wanna bet where Ill be goin this weekend!!!

Outstamding. Maybe they could consider doin repairs too. Might have to talk with them.

Hey cplyons, where ya at. Im in Homer!!

Howdy Edriz, I'm right down the road in Dryden.

I found another picture of HionFi to post, showing some speakers and prices...

About repairs - I asked the same question when I was there and Rod mentioned that they are discussing bringing aboard a very experienced "old school" repair guy, certified by some high end manufacturers. Don't know when or if that would happen. Seems like a natural way to go though, and a key to making the store successful.

Here's the pic

Don't know why it didn't load the first time...
