About 5-6+ years ago (probably longer) on the Klipsch forum it was brought to my attention that the Mini-DSP was neccessary to enable my dual THTLP subs to play bass only below 40hz....36hz to be exact.

I wish I had made notes on exactly what I did. I remember at the time working long, long hours for weeks on end and setting it up it the middle of the night. It worked great (and still does to this day). I think I remember having to adjust the roll-off to a steeper slope or something like that to achieve only below 40hz bass.

This got me thinking.....even though the Mini-dsp has worked flawlessly for the entire time I've had it, what if it takes a dump? Is the Mini-dsp the only tool that will work with these subs or is there something else out there (hopefully more simple) that can accomplish the same thing?

Thanks for any input/suggestions. This is pushing the limits for me regarding stuff in the digital realm.

I use a MiniDSP Flex Eight DL to run a pair of THTLP subs and my tri-amped La Scalas. Before I tri-amped the speakers, I used a MiniDSP 2x4HD to manage the THTLPs.

Any DSP can take a signal, split it into frequency bands, process it (to a greater or lesser extent) and then send it out to an amp. The challenge isn't that the MiniDSP is the only tool, but that --- unless you can find the same model of MiniDSP --- you'd likely have to program it from scratch.

Since your equipment may be 8 or 9 years old, you may have a predecessor product to the 2x4HD (which was introduced in early 2016). If your box is a 2x4HD they're still available from MiniDSP. You could just load the configs from your old 2x4HD into a new 2x4HD.

Otherwise you may need to learn how to use the MiniDSP DC console, Room EQ Wizard (REW), and MultiSub Optimizer (MSO) if you needed to set up the subs from scratch all over again. Although that sounds like a lot of work, the payoff is worth it.

I can't say enough good things about REW. MSO is absolutely brilliant at optimally configuring multiple subwoofers.
