Boombox for a "Deadhead"?

I love boomboxes with multi-bands including SW, overall they do seem to tune in more AM/FM stations, much more than the models with only AM/FM. Most multi-band units ended up in Asia or Europe, they primarly sent AM/FM to the USA so the multi-bands are a little harder to find.

Turntable boomboxes are a lot of fun, I think the largest is the Sharp VZ-2000 with it's patented "play both sides of the album" internals. It has two tonearms, one on each side of the record and it's huge and heavy. The much rarer Marantz PMS-6000 comes in next but it's much smaller, both of these store the TT vertical when not in use. The horizontal players have a tiny platter that slides forward and have a much smaller front face, the one I see all of the time and usually the least expensive is the Pansonic SG-J500.

I just scored a 1970 National Panasonic RS-466FDS with am FM and 2 sw bands.

I already have the am FM version, and am really impressed with the build and sound.

Cassette not working, but has aux input to play Bluetooth, so no hurry to get cassette fixed.

Hearing the sound of this is like having my hippie girlfriend who dumped me for that synthetic yuppie clown in the '80s come back, frozen in time at 19 years old, 5' 99 lbs. copper blonde blue eyes, and apologize in a very nice way.

If that makes sense.
 
I had a Panasonic RX-5150 that sounded excellent, so I'd recommend them...
As I tend to go German nowadays, if you want the best, a Telefunken Studio 1 would fit the bill....

Or a Grundig Party Center 2000... :-)
