Bose 401's. I like em.

Picked up a pair of Bose 401's with the wood grain vinyl cabs. They are in great shape and have no issues.
Tested them at the PO's house, and they sounded terrible... The highs were muffled and the bass was just loose and boomy.. Turns out (after I had bought them) that he had his 3.5mm to RCA cable plugged into the phono stage, so when I got them home, and tested them with my friends Yamaha 810 and Adcom gfa-545 II, I fell in love.

Anyone else have any experience with them? Maybe some input?

Also, has anyone performed a recap on these, if so, what are the caps needed.

Until recently we where using our housemate's 401s

They sounded terrible with his botl Sony av receiver...but pretty good with my Yamaha rx-v573

We demo'ed them with my friends 810 and that adcom, and let me tell you, they like high current amps :D They were so much more full with the Adcom pushing them, but still a very good speaker with just the 810 by itself.

I was astounded that they sounded so good, to me, and also my two, very speaker picky, friends.

i agree. of all the Bose speakers I have heard, I think the 401 and original 701 are the best sounding and least muddy of the whole family.

I've liked them, sound fine for what they are, gave two pair to my Son to run on his C65/M65, 4 ohm so running B&C for 8 ohm.
Sound punchy and strong.
I had the one pair and picked up the second, he hasn't run 'em yet but I have !
:)

I have a pair of 901's I love mine. I have them hooked up to a Adcom as well.
I know there is a lot haters out there but I like mine.

I love 601's. That 45 degree woofer is just great IMHO, looks like a junior heil.
901's are very room dependent. The 201, 301 is OK but as a book shelf, better than most, but fails compared to a CX50 B&O or stuff like that, all the rest (well what else is left) isn't that great.

Cool.
