Boston Acoustic CR-65!

These little speakers, only 10 in. tall with 5 in. woofers sound incredible. So good in fact I'm thinking about selling my Klipsch RF7IIs. Just for the hell of it I hooked them up in my main system. I have always enjoyed them but I'm shocked by how nice they sound. It really makes one wonder, these were only around $125 new. I love my RF7IIs but I'm kind of scratching my head right now. Where do I go from here?

My wife(Haha) picked me up some cr55's at our local GW a few weeks ago for $10. I thought they sounded good enough to be the rears in my HT.

I originally tested them with my crappy sub but they did sound pretty dang good.

Have had a pair of CR-6's in the garage system for ages. I think they are an earlier generation. Great litle monitors!

I had a pair of CR-8 that I gave to my son. Loved those speakers. I keep an eye out for any of the CR series based on those speakers.

Are you talking about the $1600-a-pair RF7II's? With two 10's?? Against a bookshelf speaker with ONE 5" woofer? Really??

I assume you're mainly-talking about the mids and highs more than the bass. Were you thinking of running the BA's with a sub then? Just wondering. It's been a while since I've heard Bostons.

Boston Acoustics bookshelfs

I just auditioned a pair of CR75s and I was blown away by those as well.
A-B comped them with a pair of ESM2s. I could only afford one or the other and loaded up the ESM2s. All the way home I wondered if I made a mistake as those CR75 Bostons sounded so DAMN good.
The Boston bookshelfs are fantastic but would be even better with a good tight sub!!! SELL THOSE REFRIGERATOR SIZED SPEAKERS!!!
Do a search for the CR75s and you will find a review by J Beck??? read what he has to say. (sorry I dont have the exact site at hand)

Hang on guys. I never said the Bostons would replace the Klipsch. I will consider selling the RF7IIs, something I wasn't seriously considering before.

The first iteration of my surround sound system had six of the CR-75's and everyone thought that they were great, me included.
I bought them new at Tweeter Etc. in 2003.
In 2007 I sold that set up to a good friend and replaced them with six Boston VR-M60's.
The VR's are great speakers, but those CR-75's were no slouch.

The Boston CR series were some of the best compact speakers I've heard. I have always regretted selling my CR-8s. For those who remembered, the now-defunct Audio magazine had the CR-7 on its cover and actually did a comparison of it with one of B&W's 800 series speakers. The Bostons were very competitive and gave the B&W's a run for the money.

I have the CR8s. I think they are a pretty good little speaker. Would like to be able to get them further apart as they image surprisingly well for only being 4' apart. You can place the instruments and vocalist easily but they are almost on top of each other a lot of the time. Some more seperation would enhance the effect I'm sure.

Boston recommend 6'-12' in the manual.

My home theater is a collection of bostons. I would part with my VR30 before I would my CR9. Happy to see some love for the CR series.

I have a pair of Boston CR65 that I use to use for my PC in near field like setup. Sounded great. They are in the closet now....replaced the PC speakers with Mission MS-50.
I am thinking about putting the CR65 in the garage, since I spend a lot of time out there.

Yes. I have loved every Boston I've had. A200, A150, A100, A70, CR65. The A series was all acoustic suspension with strangely wide baffles but punchy and musical in spades. These 65's seem to be very solid and well made but I'm thinking they should have sealed these too. Bass is not particularly tuneful. I may try some more stuffing but matching source amp and room placement are probably more significant. They sure can belt it out and crossed over properly with a good sub they are giant killers. Nice airy dispersion maybe due in part to the waveguide baffle form and diffractor over the tweeter.
