Bought a Tascam CD-RW402, any one else have one?

Just bought a Tascam CD-RW402 CD recorder-duplicator to replace my deceased Marantz "Pro" CDR500 that needs an unavailable laser ass'y for the CD writer-recorder. Those have a reputation for failing unortunately.

Got this Tascam locally from a going out of business music store at a great price. It was unused. Tascam made these from 2001 until 2007, and this one was manufactured in March 2007, so it was made at the end of the 6 year production. Should have all the updates etc. they might have done in that time. I took off the rack mount sides for desktop use.

Anyone else have one? Any opinions on it?

Don't have one of these. That looks like a very cool unit!

I run an RW-5000, which works wonderfully as long as you feed it 650 MB or smaller blanks. If you try to give it a 700 MB disc, it will ralph with the infamous OPC Fail message.

A chat with a nice person at TASCAM revealed that most of the 5000s that people think are defective really aren't. It's simply that no F/W upgrades were ever available from Philips, and the units can't use modern blanks.
 
nice tascam:thmbsp:i myself dont have that one but use a cdrw-4u and has been working flawlessly since i bought it new.

I also have a CD-RW4U that I recently picked up off Mike Gibson.

I've been recording LPs to CD with it and have been very pleased with the sound quality and convenience.

I am, however, still trying to various levels set correctly. The A-Track function has been giving me fits - seems it either puts in too many track divisions or not enough. I'm really hoping to find a happy medium that works semi-reliably to divide tracks - otherwise, it's going to continue to be Side A on track #1 and Side B on track #2.

you can manually insert tracks by hitting the record button during recording.(i think thats what you hit)it works great if your recording from vinyl or tape.

so why did mike get rid of it?i remember him asking for adivce on a recorder and i told him bout the cdrw4u so he bought one. oh well someone else gets to put it to good use .enjoy :thmbsp:

Glad to read everyone so far is happy with their Tascams. :thmbsp: And I have not read any comments anywhere about lack of parts or service issues after the warranty runs out like my bad experience with Marantz "Pro". (Anyone need a $650 doorstop? :tears: )
 
Yes, I have had the same experiences with their older CD recorders. And even worse problems out of Denon (Darn Equipment Never Operates Normally).
