You're a hard core dude. Hard to believe that's your first pair. Dyna A-50s? I'd like to hear those. We're not that far apart when the passes are open. Do you know any of the guys in the 2030 (ADS) club?

Hey Audio, I'm not to familiar with the ADS 2030 club although sounds interesting :D

The A-50's are some monsters and sound just really, really clean. I'm always up and around Colorado so feel free if you're down on this side or vice versa to holler at me.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Update :::

Today i dragged the JBL 4311B over to JCricket's house, *Wonderful guy, audio galore!*
We pulled off the woofer and inspected the internals, everything is clean and is just a nice well cared for factory made speaker. No sign of anyone ever opening up the cab or removing/playing around inside. We look at the leads of the woofer and they are a little short and kinda thin, so Mark *JCricket* lengthens them some, a little solder and ta-da back in business. However we test the woofer and everything passes through ok according to the ohms. We also find that the tweeter is fried, open circuit so it just so happens Mark has one around and it's a great replacement for the time being * a little rough but working!!*

Here is the sad story :( I get it all back together and test the speaker only to find that the woofer is still not passing audio. The mid-range and tweeter are working fine, yet this is where it gets weird.

If you press on the woofer some the audio pops on, yet if you let go it's gone. So I pull the woofer again and look around, checking the connections and still nothing. Only time audio passes through is when depressing the woofer surround.Yet even when that is done it's still not a clear audio as my fingers are changing the dynamics of the woofers function. So at this point I'm just at a loss, what is causing the issue for sound? Now I was moving the woofer and I can hear some internal rattling, uh-oh.. So is there something inside that could have come loose causing an issue, maybe a short? Or is it that something broke off and it's now a large paperweight? I'm debating on snagging another 2311H to replace this one, yet I really want to find out the root issue. Anyone have any ideas? The woofer is intact and has no cracks, rips, tears, holes, anything.

The leads going from the terminals are maybe breaking on the connection on the back? maybe at the vc/tinsel connection ( where the wires go into the cone) could also be a burnt spot in the coil.:sigh:

Yeah, I'm leaning towards that. The dust cap was removed and everything appears to be intact, however i still don't understand how the speaker passes audio when I press down the woofer. So I'm just stumped sigh

If you're considering only the woofer, its either the terminals, the screw tab and solder joint from the terminals, the tinsel wire itself, the tinsel terminations to the voice coil, or the voice coil itself. And or couple that with gravity.

Easy to try - without pulling the woofer out, try rotating the speaker 90 degrees and check each time, also try with speaker on its back or face. If any of these do the trick, it's likely the tinsel wire and it may require a replacement or resolder. Otherwise, you'll have to pull and double check everything again that is passing signal.

Isn't this woofer the 2213H?

Otherwise, I would be looking at the wiring from the crossover and L-pad, but those are much less likely.

You have to have at least one pair of ADS L2030s to be admitted so I guess I'm only an honorary member. One guy has five pair. They love L1530s as well and have about ten pair between them. They were the only guys with cash at the last RadioFest or whatever they call it. Leo (he's in his early 90's) is the oldest member and the coolest audiophile on the planet. A-50s are a nice little speaker for home users. You have to see these beasts in person to appreciate.

Mech,

So I tried all the above mentioned and still nothing. I have to physically press the woofer inward about 1/4 inch and then it will kick on. However it's distorted and naturally from my hand depressing it in. I'm still wondering in there is a short within the housing that is grounding out or establishing a connection when pressing it in. It's really a interesting problem, one that is killing me as I want to hear them bad...
So as of now I'm just debating on snagging another JBL 2213H, that is what I feel is the best solution without a complete tear down of the woofer. The Tweeter is also another area I'll be looking at since the temp is only going to be used for a short period of time :D So the score is more or less equalling out so to speak as the woofer I'm sure will run me around 100+ and the tweeters are also bringing in around 75+ each. So for another 175 I can have a really nice setup for a grand total of 275, still a nice deal for the speakers. I suppose we all can't have the perfect score on everything, I'll just be happy when I can get it up and running.

Thanks everyone for helping me out, I'll post pics on them again all apart heh.

I just picked up a pair of JBL 4311 with issues too. Some fool spray painted them black. I managed to strip the black paint of without damaging the wood at all. Cleaned them thoroughly and hit them with Scotts Liquid Gold and now they look pretty nice! You can't tell that they were ever defiled at all. I had to buy two tweeters for them, so, 150 for the speakers, 10 for the stripper and 80 for the tweeters. So for 240 I now have great speakers to go along with a Marantz for my computer. I really like these speakers! You will too when they are both working right. Good luck!
