Broken Vienna Acoustics?

Hey guys,

I've the chance at work to pick up a pair of Vienna Acoustic Mozart Grands for $350. The only downside is that one of them has a blown tweeter. I've done a whole bunch of research, but I can't seem to find the part for sale anywhere. I believe I can upgrade the tweeters, for around $360.

Do you guys think it would be a worth while investment? I was given a brief demo of them with the blown tweeter, and the sound still impressed me (from the good speaker that is).

Also, does anyone have a reliable parts source for Vienna Acoustic speakers?

Thanks in advance!

Not having issues with mine, but will watch this thread intently. I will say I love mine and will not part with them, though mine are a couple notches down, Haydn's.

The model of the tweeter is a ScanSpeak D2904/930004 (IIRC). I cannot for the life of me seem to find any with that model.

The closest thing I've found is this: D2905/9300, which obviously isn't the same as the original, meaning I would have to purchase two.

EDIT: Found this on a Polish audio forum: here

Emil, 17 Oct 2007, 12:30 > a version which means between 9500 and 9700? > The speaker is ferrofluid? Scan D2904/9500 speaker is unusual, with a different specification than the standard D2905/9500. It was custom-made Vienna Acoustics. Sonically somewhere between standard D2905/9500 (who plays very quietly, and for me it is all too easily) and a standard D2905/9700 (the game very fast, retail sound with precision and depth). D2904 is not as calm as 9500, but it is not so spectacularly fast and retail as 9700. It has a ferrofluid and a magnetic damping chamber, there is no copper rings.
NOTE: This was translated with Google Translate lol.

So it looks like I'll be hunting for a while if I'm looking for the original driver.

Where did you get your info? Assuming you are correct, maybe this will help http://www.speakerdesign.net/scan_speak/tweeters/7100/7100_tweeter.html

Everyone is downsizing . Many drivers models have been discontinued. The number avaiable from many companies is less each year.

Vifa and Peerless are examples.

Not that I care but look at how big Focal drivers use to be.

So just a quick update. Spoke with Patrick Butler on AVS, who said that I can get a replacement tweeter for $200! So I'll be purchasing all this and getting these bad boys all fixed up! Pictures sure to come once I bring these guys home.

So I bought them. Managed to get them for $300/pair :). Need to email VA and order the replacement tweeter now.

Better quality pictures once I clean them up a bit. Just a cellphone teaser for now :)

Just reading about Viennas has me intrigued. They most likely would be shy of the necessary bass for me but I'd still like to hear what everyone's raving over...Inquiring minds want to know (and we all know I'm an inquisitive mofo).

So I finally got in BOTH (yes, as it turns out BOTH tweeters were bad) tweeters. Replaced them today. Finally started listening to these bad boys.

Extremely impressed with them. May put these above my CM9s for Music listening. Just wow.

Very cool. I'm envious. I know as nice as my Haydn's are those Grands have to be quite amazing. Enjoy!

dgneo,
I'm a new member confronted with the same problem now that you had with your Vienna Acoustics speakers in 2012 and perhaps you can help me. I have a pair of Mahler's with one tweeter not working. It is that D2905/930004 scan speak tweeter that was especially made for the Mahler version 1.0 I think. Can you get me in contact with the person who helped you with getting your parts? My efforts in working through the North American distributor for Vienna Acoustics, now Blue Bird Audio in Toronto, have so far been unproductive and I'm wondering if there is an easier solution. Thanks

It might be a long shot, but keep an eye out at AliExpress.com They sell Vienna Acoustic "kits" there (none mine). I've seen individual drivers too. I don't know how authentic these kits are, but it might at least be a stop gap measure, until something better comes along. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have several other leads going to try to figure out what to do. I'll look into this one too.
