Is anyone using or used the Bryston 8b st for 2 channel?

I’m looking for an amp under $1500. Open to suggestions on trying different amps on my system. Looking for something not to bright to tone down the highs.

The sensible way to do it would be to get an integrated amplifier with tone controls.

The "synergy" way to do it might be to get a lower quality tube amp or Class D amp with a high frequency rolloff that depends on speaker impedance in that region, and which matches your speakers. Truly awful interconnects or speaker cables could also audibly attenuate high frequencies.

I'm just looking to play around a little bit t see if I can put something together that sounds good at a decent price. Any tube pre's you would recommend?

If price is a criteria, then anything using vacuum tubes will be more expensive than the equivalent that doesn't use them.

If your goal right now is to reduce certain high frequencies, the best way would be with a tone control or equalizer. The cheapest way might be draping cloth over the tweeters. The most expensive and difficult way would be trying different amplifiers and boutique speaker cables. It's just a matter of time, budget, and what's fun for you.

I’m in for the hobby aspect I’m just going to try and have some fun with stuff.

I looked into the DH 500 a little bit, it seems like something I’d be interested in trying out. Has a lot of mods available as well.

What seems to be a fair price for one? I was watching one on eBay that ended up for selling for $330
Sounds about right. I paid $400 from orig owner. I then updated and refurbished for another $500.
