On the McIntoshlabs.com website there is a link to the first magazine review of the 70th anniversary system and it is an eye opener. Amazing performance and sound. MC2152 is the finest stereo McIntosh tube amp as many have discovered. Ditto on C70.

Thanks,

Impressive 220 wpc. still cannot get over the MC2152's depth of 28". It appears nothing like that in pictures!

In person it looks different than in pictures. It will certainly fill up an amp stand! The transformers are huge and the tubes are spread out on the front of the chassis for cooler running.

I was at Overture Audio In DE for the unvieling, quite impressive! almost enough to make me want tubes! Excellent sound and nice looking.

In Hifi&Records there is a wonderful review about the MC2152/C70. The reviewer is talking about a dream team. Alone they are great, but as a combo they are unbeliveable.

Power for the MC2152 was 224 Watt for 4 and 8 Ohm (1%, THD, 1 khz)
Distortion for MC 2152 was 0,037% (THD+N, 10W, 4 Ohm)
S/N for MC 2152 (a-valuation) was 97,9dB

Distortion for C70 was 0,0016%
S/N for C70 (a-valuation) was 97,2dB

Best regards
Martin

PD: i am still looking for a rack which is 30 inch deep to cover the beast...

I await your review!

I almost bought a C70 and would have loved to hear it. By all accounts it's a pretty special piece.

But then again, so is the C1000 I ended up with :-).

For output tubes, expectancy is less predictable because it depends on how hard the amplifier is run.

Signal tubes had been known to last decades in the past when tube quality is at its best. Can't say whether that still holds for modern tubes.

IT maybe a great performing amp with great specs. But it doesn't look like a Mac amp. I guess they learned their lesson. At least a MC 901 almost has the correct appearance. It should have a 2301 face plate with the dual vu meter. And the rocker switches on a C-70 are just plain ugly. I much prefer the looks of the latest C-22. As Octavia said "tradition"

Have been listening to several SET amps and thinking about own one.

Blue meter is the iconic of McIntosh brand.

Tell that to the 6 version of a 275. 240's, 225's MC 30 and 60,s and MC 3500's don't have Blue meters and are still popular and appreciating. Yes amps like the 7100 and 502, 752,754 and a few others aren't as popular. That includes 7106, 7104 and 8207, too. But they are still great power amps and bring a lot of people joy and they look like Mcintosh. 2152 Doesn't.
