Cambridge Soundworks New Ensemble II Resistance ?s

I picked up a Cambridge Soundworks New Ensemble II 3 pc set (subwoofer and two satellite speakers). This is a passive wired system. Satellites connect to the subwoofer. Sub connects to amp.

I thought they sounded good. When I moved the balance control from L to R I noticed that one side was much louder than the other. I switched sides on the connections and saw that the problem stayed with the one speaker (not being as loud).

I measured resistance on each satellite disconnected and was surprised to see both of them reading about 2M resistance (they are labeled as 6 ohms). This has me baffled. I have another pair of Ensemble satellites and they also read very high resistance.

Is that normal for this system or is there something wrong here?

Thank you

If they're similar to the original Ensemble, the satellites have high-pass crossovers built in. These would interfere with the DC resistance measurement of the speaker, since you're probably measuring through a capacitor.

I have a set and they sound great for near-field listening if you respect the listening position. I paired mine with a Crown d-45 amp and they image like monsters for a desktop set. Found mine for $20 on craigslist a while back.

If one speaker does not play as loudly as the other you need to pry off the grill to start trouble shooting and pull the drivers to do measurements.
