Can anyone say what this JE320 MiniDisc deck was rewired for?

MDS JE320 MiniDisc Deck with a metal blk off plate over the MD slot and a 3.5mm lead internally wired coming out of the rear of the case? also has stock analog RCA input/outputs & Optical input...

Digital/Optical input to Analog out (DAC)???

Probably was being used for some kind of converter, yes. Also fairly likely the transport has the common failed detect switch issue that makes the mechanism cycle endlessly if you don't leave a disc inserted - does it even have the transport installed now?

Thks John

Goodwill item; considering p/u for $24 shipped. Will look for internal layout if I go thru with it, is it possible to scrab in a way to use a simple USB socket
to read certain digital formats from a PC/thumb drive.

Arrived today extra external wire lead is infact a mono 3.5mm male-12v trigger lead? Remote IR sensor tapped over on the front pnl, Input selector tapped over with "turn off when not in use" note, 74 minute MD installed behind block-off plate. Pwr on reads "Blank Disk"...

So Digital/Optical input to Analog/RCA outputs????
With remote 12v trigger: Or "It could also be a remote start/stop (probably tacked on at the pause button) that is contact-closure activated. Chip"

There is no effect when I press the front control Play/Pause/Stop just reads blank disk: but Record button reports disk protected???

However no signal connected to unit at this time either...

Unit was also rigged for Professional rack mounting with multi other like setups also available from the Auction location, maybe four units total donated from the same users??

Is this a statement based on disassembly and observation, or a question to the group?
If it was in use as a D-A converter as speculated above, it would need power, input, output, and maybe record-pause with a disc to enable E-E monitoring.
Maybe disassemble it and post some clear pics, and include a link to the manual.

12v trigger just a question to the group?
"If it was in used as a D-A converter as speculated above, it would need power, input, output, and maybe record-pause with a disc to enable E-E monitoring."

Question; please explain E-E monitoring in basic terms definitely not real hip on most digital format lingo?

Basically, Electronics-to-electronics monitoring, to allow monitoring of the input, thru the machine on to the output. Common in 'REC + Pause' mode for setting levels (if that is permitted on this MD) but also on cassette and video recorders. So if this was in use as a D-A converter, that converter circuit would need to be active for a signal to be present on the outputs. But we're just third-hand speculating about the possible use for a device set up this way, and subsequently its operation.

But aside from what the device does in its current config, what is your goal for it? If you want to turn it back into a functioning MD recorder, start getting rid of tacked-on stuff, while keeping photo and written notes about how it was configured. Then look at the historical failure modes mentioned above, and address them. Do Google searches on popular mods for these type devices. You'll need to scrounge up known-good MDs, and recordable ones, for your testing to mean anything.

I presume you've browsed minidisc.org?

Interest is in current configuation. Thks for the E-E explanation "REC+pause mode" right on. Speculation why someone would use multi rack mt. units at the same time...
