Car systems

Dazed and Confused
How many of you brought your Audio obsession into your car? I spend 2-3 hours a day in mine, gotta have tunes.

For me I could not care less about car audio. Whatever comes with the car is fine with me as it very rarely gets turned on. I had thought about putting a set up on my motorcycle but decided against it as it seems like it would just be another needless distraction. A great home stereo with lots of dynamics is where it's always been at for me.

I brought my 8 track hobby into my 1974 Ford LTD; i got an under dash 8 track deck, and an in dash AM/FM cassette.

Well they're not connected up yet, i still got them in the house lol, but i refuse to install it until it gets warmer.

Right now i got a broken cassette deck, and I'm using the one factory speaker in the front dash. lol

There was a time when I was crazy for car audio (late 90's) It got stolen while I was parked at Naval Hospital in San Diego of all places. Since then I have not bought another head unit or anything besides a moderate sub box and small Fosgate amp for my truck. Although stock systems have come a heck of a long way since the old AM radio with single dash speaker.

Car audio is just sort of an extension of the hobby for me. I have always had big systems in my vehicles.

Right now I have very little going on in my car, but i can just imagine Neal Bortz and other talk radio I listen to would benefit from a couple of 12" subs:D.

When I used to go to car shows back in England, I tricked out the rear of my 1981 Capri. Two 10" Infinity woofers in a custom designed box, component speakers in the door, and an amp rack with two Jensen amps. I did think about taking the amps apart and painting them yellow to go with the yellow and black colour scheme of my car, but never did.

Fast forward 15 or so years, and I still have one of those Jensen amps, and it's still working fine. Nowadays, I try to use woofers that don't need a huge box, so I still have some trunk space left. Also, with more modern head units, especially ones with high pass filters built in, I find I can get away with using the amps in the head unit for the full range speakers, and just using an amp for the subwoofer.

I had an Alpine changer and amp/MB Quart doors/JL Audio woofers in my last extended cab truck all concealed with the stock system all that was visible. It all sit's in a box in the garage since my current truck is a regular cab.

I did replace all the little stock speakers with Alpines and was also using an Alpine head unit, that is until it was stolen. Replaced the broken window and dash pieces and installed a 100 buck Sony and an XM Roady. I'm sick of dealing with thieves.

my sound install in my mini is being re-configured & updated soon...needs some underbody welding before i can begin but..

existing stuff to cram in includes:

alpine cassette head unit
3 amplifiers (about 600 watts total)
1x 12 inch sub in diy box
2x 8 inch cheapo bass units plus 2 mission tweeters fed through salvaged crossovers from a pair of mission 700 speakers in custom rear shelf
2x 6 inchs from another pair of domestic hitachi speakers
diy front speaker panel with 2x 4 inchs and some salvages tweeters from an old pair of three way car speakers..

just need to find a couple of good eq's to balance it all out...

Hey the steering wheel is on the wrong side! Just kidding, looks awsome!

My dad had 2 of these in his truck a couple years ago. Both 18" and some of the loudest subs made! He was giving them 600w With a rockford fosgate amp (I think).

I'd love a Capri. Find one over 25 yrs. old, and you can bring it over and it's exempt from EPA and DOT.
