Cassette deck to match up my Sansui amp

Speakerbox

Super Member
Black deck with amber/orange and red led meters.

Any tape decks you guys know, right off the bat, please let me know the model numbers... thanks!
A good or decent tape deck that will have meters to match up to my Sansui amp meters below(or a close match).

Are you looking for it to cosmetically match your new amp or is the sound reproduction important as well. A good Nakamichi BX, DR, RX and the mighty Dragon will match black/gold wise, but will only give you red meter LED's. The CR's are green metered.

I have a Yamaha early 90s with that color scheme. I think most of them had that color scheme then.

Buy anything and paint it whatever colour you like.
You can even go impressionistic, cubistic or neo-baroc.

To the heck how it sounds??
;-)

Hope it's possible to find something well performing in your colour scheme.

Gents, of coarse sound quality matters. i'm sure models that are mentioned will cover the 20 to 20k range. or very very close.
it's pretty clear that i love good audio. i didn't think i had to ask you all that, to save you gents time. Thanks in advance.

Yes sir. The only models I can think of right now is JVC and Yamaha like one mentioned. But it may be more good tape decks that I don't know about, that could match up. Seeing what's out there. Thanks!

That was kind of uncalled for Dolph. If you have nothing constructive to add, I would suggest holding off on the keyboard.
The OP has a legit question.

I'd take a look at VintageCassette. I would assume that Sansui made a 3-head deck in 84-86 that would match meter wise. If not there are a lot of other brands to look through.

The JVC KD-V6 has an orange display and is an excellent deck. 3 heads, and the record and playback head have independently adjustable azimuth, very unusual on a cassette deck. You can buy them cheap, no one seems to know about them.

The JVC TD-V711 is an exact match and it comes with side wood panels as a bonus. :music:

What are the odds! I just picked up a nice TD-V711 for $30. The guy also had a matching JVC XL-V550 CD player for the same price. I should've picked that one up as well. Too late.

As a service specialist, I have not been fond of Sansui cassette decks.

Pioneer made a number of machines with similar fluoroscan displays to your Sansui, but Pioneer wasn't much into black-face units at the time. Nakamichi made a large number of black-face units, but they weren't into fluoroscan. JVC and Yamaha as depicted above both made black-face units with fluoroscan displays, but the Nak will outperform the JVC by a good margin and the Yamaha by a head.

You have a hard decision.

I have worked on a few JVC CD players and was not impressed with the construction. These were all mid fi units, so maybe there are better models.

Have you ever worked on a 3 head JVC Fred? They are superior in frequency response and wow and flutter as well as noise level. They will easily go 20- 20 khz +- 1db when properly aligned with Maxel xl2. As good as most Naks and many others. Aiwa 3 head decks such as the ADF-810 are also amazing and under the radar.

I own a JVC KD-V6. Very fine performing machine. Very decently built. Wow & Flutter is very, very low. Frequency Response excellent. Mechanically very good. Cost me $20 at a pawn shop. Very low hours unit. Only getting a cherry Tandberg better model or a ReVox cheap in nice nick are the only things which would make me upgrade.

I paid $10 for mine at a garage sale! It's definitely well made and great frequency response. I forget what mine tops out at but I do remember it was over 20K.

Cool looking JVC deck though. Had me going for a minute. I have not seen many orange colored displays except my DR-M2 goes from flourescant blue to orange but it is silver faced. I have never heard a Japan Victor deck. I like Sansui but never heard their tape decks. I think that orange and black are beautiful together and also a black and flourescent blue or greyish display would work really nice alongside your Sansui. It does not all have to be Black /Orange. Try the Black with Silver Blue Denon look. :music:

Here are the Orange/Blue display colors on a silver Denon.
