pretty much any name-brand dvd player will be good. They can be found at the thrifts for under $20 easily. As people go to blu-ray the ditch the standard dvd players; they make decent cd decks.

The older and heavier the bettererer.
30-40lb for a single, and I think they had those honeycomb base plates ... atleast the one I saw did ...

BTW Harman kardon fl series, they had the akm4639 dac, IMHO the second best to the tda1541. Essentially there were 2 types of cd players. Those that had the tda dac, and all the rest.

Cool.

One of the most pleasant surprises since I fell down the Audio Rabbit Hole has been a Nakamichi CD Player 2 that I picked up for about a Franklin on the Auction Site. Built around 1991 or so, they are incredibly great sounding: and yes you CAN hear a difference between CD players (I didn't think it possible).Fantastic build quality, and the design was purchased later in the decade by McIntosh: that says something, too. I am not quite sure how, but it also plays back CD-R's just fine. Highly recommended.
Oh: it has a volume control on the remote, and two sets of audio outputs (one bypasses the volume pot). The cool motorized volume pot is a nice Alps. Having a remote volume is Really Cool with all those old amps and receivers that we collect from the pre remote days of yore.
