I much prefer the cold, to the heat. I'd move back to CO, if the cost of living wasn't so d**m high.

Yeah the cost of living in NY is definitely higher than FL. It worked out for me because I already owned property in NY. And with the building laws here I was able to build/wire/plumb my own house.

Today was the perfect day to test. 6 degrees out. When I heated this cap the player started right up

Is that my only PS cap? It’s 82uf 200v

I replaced the 82uf cap. The CD player still doesn’t want to turn on when it’s cold. Here’s part of the schematic. That’s the only cap I see that rated for line voltage (C1004). Except for C1003. Assuming it is power supply related, any other ideas?



I also did a test with the cap. I don’t have a real cap tester, just an LCR meter. The cap is rated at 82uf. I figure the tolerance is 20%. So let’s say 66-98uf is acceptable. At room temp the cap is 72uf. After a few hours in the freezer the cap is at 66uf. Interesting how it drops so much, but barely stays in tolerance.

I should’ve tested the new cap before installing it. Cold tested it I mean.

its more likely a smaller capacitor causing the problem .
