Lost in Music
I got a set of these while I was in H.E.B. in the Metroplex picking up a Kenwood KT 6500 Tuner. both Tweeters are gone as is one Woofer however everything else is in pretty fair shape except that someone painted the top of the cab's a crappy brown color. As I got them real cheap I thought they might be worth fixing.

Are they worth fixing or maybe as parts??

It's going to be hard to find the parts. I did see the tweeters once on Ebay. I have a set. Make sure the fuses aren't blown. The tweeters might be fine. Happened to me once. If you have one good woofer you may be able to find a pair that are similar.

I recapped mine with a film and pio caps. It made a huge improvement, and they didn't sound bad to start with. They are definitely worth restoring. Really fine speakers.

I also refinished mine. They have a beautiful walnut veneer that is thick enough to sand imperfections. Good luck and keep us posted.

The tweeters are very nice but typically will burn out because of fairly low power handling. As they are pretty hard to come by, you may have some difficulty sourcing a replacement.

Look for a Celestion HF2000 tweeter, you'll have to find the ones that have 3 mounting holes.

If your tweeters are truly dead, I'd be interested in them for the perforated grille covers on them. PM me about them.

BTW, you probably would have better luck in the US sourcing a replacement tweeter assuming it would fit the cutout.

I picked a pair of the tweets a while back on Ebay ,for an amazing $16.00. I have 4x Celestion Ditton 25's....I replaced my Cole Tweeters on the top ,with a very very nice sounding Chinese silk dome...I bought a box of 18 with my son...from a fellow on ebay for $70. They sound as good for less $$$!

An update on the Celestion Dittion 442's that I bought in Feb 09. As my wife passed away shortly after I purchased them they were put on hold until mid 2011. I'm very happy to say they are setup on my main system and they replaced a set of Boston Accustic BA 150 series II's that are now setup on the bedroom system (very nice system).

They only had one OEM woofer and after a long search I settled on a set of CTS Woofers that came very close to the OEM spec of the original Celestion Woofers. The Tweeters were replaced with a set of soft dome Tweeters from parts express.

At the time I purchased them I was unable to find a set of tweeters that were reasonably priced and had to settle for the present set that are installed. They do lack a bit on the high end but overall I love the sound of theses speakers.

A KA 6004 intergrated amp powers them (40wpc) more than enough power. Loudness off. Bass and Treble flat. For me Music at its best. The Celestions are still an ongoing project. The Tweeters will be replaced soon with a set that is closer to the OEM specs. More on these fine speakers later.
