I picked up a pair of these CV HED 1230's with a 12" woofer yesterday at the GW and they needed a little cleaning but now look and sound great! The surrounds will need to be replaced at some point. They seem like a well may speaker. Does anyone own these or know when they where made? They look like early 80's.

High Energy Design (HED) was a short lived series from C-V, later the tag was resurrected by C-V for a line of car audio.

You don't come across the HED stuff to often. I have two pairs of HED CV-3000's, (Do an AK search, there are pics of mine here) and I have only heard of two other pairs anywhere besides these. They are currently on hold for an AK member, one pair was just re-foamed, and the other pair still needs the foams.

They sound great, very efficient, and they have that typical west coast sound to them, making them a great rock speaker, although they do just fine on other material. If you love Van Halen, you should be very happy with them! If you love Van Beethoven, you could find a better pair of speakers.

I just refoamed a pair of 1230 HED speakers and put on new grill cloth. They rock, but they were a challenge to me to refoam. I've been an Electronic Tech for 45 years but never had the need to refoam till this week. It went well. Mine were made in 1976. I will install new caps in the crossover in a week or two. I am in Colorado and if anyone would like this pair they are surplus to me. ( Unless I get moving to replace the junkers I have in my machine shop with these decent CV puppies. Nice meeting you guys. I'm new here, but have owned CV speakers since around 1973 or so. 320MT with 189E are my main speakers. Concrete reinforcement of my walls wasn't TOO expensive! I LOVE pipe organ music and just about anything with "too much" base. Too much is the correct setting for me I find. I am not an audio purist. I just know what I like to listen to. Later...Len
