Okay, okay: Not up to our stuffy audiophile standards maybe, but this IS a nice looking unit with a real wood cabinet (!) that would make a great gift for someone in your family, right? :)

Not too bad at $169 on Amazon, they have the same model in a lighter wood too... http://www.amazon.com/Sangean-WR-12...qid=1411589267&sr=8-36&keywords=sangean+radio

I also have a Sangean 909 that is a remarkable radio. If the table radio is anything like it, a real piece of equipment. Needs a clock and alarm function I think.

Connect a Grace Wi/Fi internet radio into the AUX and you would have a nice compact system!

Yes Sangean is decent and sometimes fairly classy. I have had a shortwave radio from them for a long time.

I have a Sangean PR-D5 portable am/fm stereo with styling I like (in white) and good sound for its size and price.

If you're into AM/MW broadcasts the PR-D5 and the newer PR-D15 are the best and most sensitive portable AM radios Sangean make. Wish they put that big 200 mm ferrite bar into the 909 shortwave reviever.

Interesting that one can get a bit more realism for a narrow spread on stereo speakers like this. I think the radio is just putting out some extra signal that the ears and brain picks up.

Even at a distance, say in another room, a stereo playback seems richer.

Anyway, that's my impression but others may experience it differently.

It does look like a fine unit for casual listening. I like the lighter wood personally.

Yeah, I bought the CCraneRadioEP the same day I bought the Sangean. It also has the 8" ferrite bar, with a tuning circuit (twin coil sumpnuther). One radio digital, the other analogue. Nice AM for pulling in those ballgames. If the left one don't get it, the right one will. Just tune in the game, pop some corn, roast some peanuts, grab a cold beverage (Coke for me), and you're there in the stands. Add a nutritious, delicious hot dog if you dare. Party like it's 1942. Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best.

I agree with 4-2-7, at first glance I thought it was a guitar amp-but it looks like a nice table radio.

While a fine table radio, ya want Long Distance get a nice restored Zenith tube table radio with FM, hard to beat. The Sangean pictured here is nice, but it's AM section is nowhere close to a good Zenith.

Looks like a kid's version of a brown Fender Showman head). Where's it made? Kinda' has a Korean vibe to it (instead of China).

Actually, it looks like the love child of a brown Showman and a Fisher 500t.

This is gonna' be my table radio... RCA/Victor 8R71 AM/FM tube-powered model from 1948... Art deco era... I'll probably bring it to the guy who did my Fisher, since he's done this model before.

Once restored, it'll look like this...

Naughahyde. From the Extinct Subtropical hybrid mammal/marsupial called the NAUGHA. Greenpeace has put a BOUNTY on anyone caught with an amp covered in it. Authentic Imitation Naughahyde (also called Marine grade Vinyl) has been known to fool Greenpeace personnel, sending them into fit's of Self Doubt and severe depression, due to not getting the real thing impounded and the owner cane'd.

I was thinking it would look great in that vinyl they cover guitar amps in, ( it has a name I just can't recall )whatever that stuff is called.

I think he's talking about Tolex. That's what they called that stuff you see on the Fender Showman I posted. I don't know whether other guitar amp/PA manufacturers used that term or not, but that's what Fender used/called it. Black tolex, brown tolex, ... What about Fender's tweed-era amps? Was that simply referred to as TWEED tolex? Or was that a different sort of vinyl (It's just textured vinyl, right)?

QVC host: "OK, I see we already have a buyer on the line for this one?.... Can you tell us yer' name, sweetheart?"

Elderly woman, sounding confused: "Um........I can't remember........... I'm lost... Walking on the freeway."

QVC host: "You can't remember...... You're lost walkin' on the freeway... Well, can you remember your credit card number?"
