Chosing between HPM100 and Infinity?

Ok, these two speakers are in my area (so no shipping yay!) and I need your opinions here.

First, some HPM-100s
is that a pushed in dust cover i see on the right? stains on the top? think he'll get 250 for them?

Next, the infinity SM112 speakers.

The second are cheaper - does either stand out a lot? I know its not comparing apples to apples.

I think I'd pass on that pair of HPM's. They look kind of rough. Not to mention that the seller scares me. 0 feedback, can't spell & couldn't even take the time to move the friggin' trash can out of the way before shooting that lousy picture. God only knows how they'd be packed! NO THANKS.

Wish I could help with the Infinity's, but that model is a mystery to me. (Again another crappy picture.)

Just my 2 cents,

I also avoid either one of those auctions. If it's Infinity you'd like you want a set with the famous EMIT tweeters like the Qb's. I believe the Kappa series also uses the EMIT tweeter as well. The SM series is definitely not Infinity's best effort. I've got a very nice pair of the Qb's and sound quality wise they'll blow away most speakers made today.

Helpful observations ....
given the choice between the HPM100's and Qb's would you pick a winner?
Then again, i like the idea of the Qb's - saw some on eBay earlier ... thanks!

I have had both the newer HPM-900 and the Qb. Both are very, very nice. The bigger HPM, though, was my preferred speaker system.
The Qb, though, only lacked in comparison. For a 10-inch, 3-way speaker system, the Qb is one of the better units available.
I would also suggest looking at the smaller HPM models. These are truly outstanding speaker systems.

I've already explained the deal about the Infinity SM's :

The Qb's, on the other hand, would be an example of speaker worth getting (I know because I own a pair myself) and the price for them would be quite reasonable. Though that would depend somewhat on what condition they're in. I think its better to spend a bit more and get a pair of speakers that are in really nice shape rather than try and get 'em for cheap and then discover they're pretty banged-up looking and/or the drivers are in need of replacement/repair.

By the way, if these are the QB's you were looking at on Ebay:

If you plan to bid on them, there are 2 things that should be pointed out:

1.) Have the seller send you photos of the actual speakers he
has.

2.) Have him be more specific on the replaced EMIT's. Were they
replaced with EMITS or did he put some other kind of tweeter
in there? And when were they put in- last year, 5 years ago,
10? Who put them in? himself, a hi fi shop? If its a shop,
does he still have the receipt for the work. Details are whats
needed here.

By the way, another good alternative, is the Qa. Its the 2 way version of the Qb (doesnt have a midrange driver) :

Hey thank you! i hadn't seen the Qb's there before. I agree I'll need to do some research/emailing on those speakers if i am going to consider bidding. I will be quite wary on the replaced EMIT tweets - from what I've read I definitely want an authentic replacement EMIT.

Back to shopping. :D
