Two too many zeroes, if you ask me. I have an SX-1250. Don't see any reason to own the empty box. I am sure that there is one, though.

Don't know how many times on Antiques Roadshow a person has brought in an antique toy and been told it would be worth 10X as much if it had the original box.

You are right usedto...my wife has around twenty 50's era Barbies that are considered half-worth because the boxes are missing.:(...if we only new then what we know now.

I would pay a bit more for a unit WITH it's original box, packing material and owners manuals in good condition. For just a box - not so much. I have about 100 Hot Wheel and Matchbox die cast cars from when I was a kid back in the 1960's - Though they are all in very good condition as I took care of my toys, ask me if I wish I had the boxes.........

...and the same goes for my 50 or so original Kenner Star Wars figures that are lost in purgatory...no figures or boxes. I feel your pain!

Wait until we see "reproduction" boxes of these TOTL units.
Like the boxes they are doing for the old action figures: https://20thcenturybox.com/

:dunno:He’s hoping a stupid comes along and stares at it long enough to think it might actually be filled with one .

...I admit, I went through all the pictures in the listing to see if there was one in there!...simply to justify the cost!

Man, was excited till I saw the $7.45 shipping cost. That ended it for me!:D

This reminds me of the guy who bought a car on the web, based on the photo of it...I think around $800, and when it arrived in the mail...there was the same photo of the car. The buyer didn't read the fine print that the $800 was only for the photo...no car.

I like having the original boxes for my gear but for that kind of money, no way. I've found that wheel boxes work great as stand ins for hi-fi gear. They are square, the 18 or 19 inch ones are just the right size for most units and they are double wall cardboard.

I have an empty PL-530 box sitting on a shelf in the garage. My wife had a garage sale this summer. A guy walks in, points at the box and asks if the Pioneer Turntable is for sale. I said, no the box is empty. He offered me a $100 for the box.

Real boxes with packing material sell for $50-100 in decent used condition because they can elevate the sale price of the unit a few times that cost...or the unit owner is seriously cod with more funds than many AKers admit to spending on things like this.

Of course, if you have a nice older piece and the manufacturer still supports it, ask them what a box might cost and that $50-100 goes up but quick. Great to have original double boxes and packing for shipping a unit, too. This one is priced a bit high but it would sell if there was a best offer option.

If I had a 1250 I'd happily pay 100 for that box if it had the packaging material inside. The cheapskates on here don't understand the value of original packaging to collectors (note i said collectors not the average audiophile)

As a "collector" I would want the original box with the correct serial number, not just any box. Like I have for my AU-719.

And for the record, I am a cheapskate AND a collector.

Some buyer are greedy and, usually, greedy buyer also stupid. They will fall right into it and think $600 is the only deal they can get.
