Click and it's off

I hope this is the correct place for this post.

Just got my sm 150's back up and was testing the new surrounds on the woffers and after about 10 min. on my little Aiwa AV-X220 at half volume play the receiver clicks off.
It will not power back on so I unplugg it and try it again and it powers back up. The unit was very warm on top, was I pushing it too hard or is there another problem? I'm guessing temp protection?

A re wires correct and insulation intact? sometimes a wire can be worn in long lengths and if it touches the other it will make many units do what you are experiencing, I had this happen once when I stapled wires to baseboard and 1 went thru middle of wire acting as a jumper connecting both positve and negative.

Yes everthing is connected correct. New wires and short, like 4' each.
I cranked it down a knoch and it'sfine so far. :scratch2:

Does the unit have adequate ventilation? As in a couple inches each side and minimum of four to six inches above, and not in a closed cabinet.

Do you have access to other speakers to hook up and test? That may narrow things down a bit so you will know if it is the unit or the speakers.

yes I have some kg 2.5's but I'm afraid to push them that hard. I have them on the rear channel now but not pushing them......

I've got a (new to me amp) in the mail and should be here any day.
I have X'ed the cables on this amp in the past and triggered the same effect. I can't imagine the speakers having a problem but I could be very wrong. I ran this thing with all 4 channels humping and no problem. With the A channel cranked is when it went "click"
I'll crack the case tomorrow and see if it's dirty or any caps popped.

Maybe Celt hit the nail on the head.........

anyway hope everone has a safe New Year..

Based on what you've wrote and others have said and my own familiarity with your speaker type ( I have a pair of 152's ), it's probably a minimum load presented to your amp. These are very efficient speakers and I think one way they achieve this is with impedance drops well below the nominal spec.

I could probably force my old Kenwood KR-710 into protection pretty easily, though I haven't tried!
