Columbus Craigslist for someone..

I'm in Columbus but don't have the skills to repair. Have Aragon 4004 MKII with the
24k preamp as my main system and a Nakamichi PA-5 amp on the secondary system.
Any ideas what the problem could be?

My guess is bad caps/transistors on regulated supply and protection circuit for the Pioneer. Pretty normal for one of those. The Marantz is hard to say. If it does not power up at all, it likely has a blown main fuse and a blown amp. They should both be restored IMO, and that price is absolutely right.

They are some of the best that each had to offer.

If your lucky the Marantz just needs to be cleaned. I had a Marantz receiver that stopped because the power switch needed to be cleaned.

I called and left a msg. Will keep you posted.

Edit:
Thank you all for your help, if I get them may need more help on troubleshooting, repair, value, etc. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks Dave, definitely good to know. If I made it a long term project it will less noticable. I won't be in a rush, if I did get them. Nonetheless a good thing to consider.
Thanks again!

Here in Ohio we have had several men and recently a young woman who was found dead responding to Craigslist help wanted ads. I think I will pass but thanks for letting us know about them.

Yeah as John mentioned I would be concerned about that too. I would not go somewhere without a friend along.

I followed up on an ad for an Empire 598, got an e-mail back twice from the selling party but no address. Multiple e-mails and still no response back, the ad is still up.

What is CHL?

Hey guys, I think the seller is a whack job. There are some serial misleading posters on the columbus Craigslist who list items they may or may not have. I talked to him 2 days ago about stopping by, and he said he would call back to arrange something. He called back hours after he was supposed to, and pushed back our appointment. I have called back repeatedly and he does not answer. Beware is right! I'd love to see an ak member get a good deal, but I've encountered this before in town.

Person with the Empire 598 contacted me July 31st early in the afternoon after I sent him an e-mail that Monday night. We even agreed on a sale.
Another AKer contacted him that same week Tue or Wed. You can find his posts in the Turntable forum.

We haven't heard back from him.
Do the the initials JH sound right? Not sure if I can mention names without getting someone in possible legal issues.

Edit: Sorry, the commentary was about the Empire turntable not the original items in this post, still no e-mail response for the Marantz/Pioneer.

Still we should be a bit careful.

These are for real. After the comments about guns and such maybe it is the craigslist buyers who have a problem.I own them. Tim

Almost sounds like he's trying to auction them off to the highest bidder. If so, bad form ace.
