Compare Classic Spendor to Harbeth

So for models of similar size, history, and configuration, how do the two brands compare in current offerings?

How does a Classic 1/2 compare to a SHL5Plus XD?

They are of comparable size, weight, sensitivity, bass driver diameter, and power needs.

But how does the sound differ?

You might try to talk to Gene Rubin. He is a dealer in California who sells both brands. He has helped me several times to make good decisions.....whether it benefited him or not. Good luck in your search.

I'm not sure my speakers are similar enough. I own Harbeth P3ESR's and Spendor Classic 3/1's. I have owned the Harbeth C7's as well. BTW, I bought them all from Gene Rubin...higly recommended!

Unfortunately, Santa Barbara has a 12 hour time difference so Gene Rubin is literally half way around the globe from me.

Still, I might try.

Ha. I didn't realize where you were. He will respond to email as well. For the record, I own Harbeth 30.1 speakers. Extremely pleased with them.

Good luck in your search. I would think that there might be some decent dealers near you. No?

And this is just my opinion, but I would consider the 2-way speakers manufactured by these two companies. I find a well-executed 2-way speaker to be magical. Something like the 30.2 or C7 speakers by Harbeth, or the Spendor 2/3 or 3/1.

I then use a subwoofer to add just a bit of bottom end.

I had the Spendor A6R’s and very much prefer the Super 5’s. Tonally richer and better sorted top to bottom. The Spendor’s have great bass but I found the upper mid and treble to be too aggressive for me.
