Hi guys, was wondering if you could help advise on how best to connect up all of the following pieces of equipment please?...

Kenwood KR-9600
Schiit Modi 3
Schiit Loki
Arcam CD72
Apple iPhone 7
(various Adapters & Cables )

From what I can find on the web there seems to be different ways but I was wondering what you guys would do?

Apologies for the noob question!

Cheers!

The Kenwood is a receiver which consists of a tuner. preamp (with tone controls and a power amp.
The Modi DAC and the arcam cd player would be connected to line level inpu0ts of the Kenwood.
As for the Iphone 7, i'd suggest a 3.5 mm stereo to RCA cable to a l.ne level input on the kenwood.

You. might try the loki in a tape loop although it's functionality is duplicated in the kenwoods preamp.

The iphone 7 lacks a headphone jack so you'll need a lightning adapter. The Loki seems like overkill since your receiver already has 3 tone controls. But here's how I'd do it:
  1. CD player into AUX input on receiver
  2. Schiit Modi into TAPE A PLAY
  3. If you don't already have a way to get an analog signal out of the iPhone, I'd recommend a decent Bluetooth receiver instead. Plug either that or the lightning adapter cable into TAPE B PLAY.
  4. If you still want to use the Loki, remove the jumpers on the Kenwood between PRE OUT and POWER IN. Wire PRE OUT on the Kenwood to IN on the Loki, and POWER IN to OUT. Put the jumpers in a safe place, you'll need them if you decide to remove the Loki in the future.
  • To listen to CDs, select AUX on the SELECTOR. Make sure the TAPE MONITOR switch is in the SOURCE position for this or the radio, or turntable if you decide to add one
  • To listen to the Modi, select A on the MONITOR. SELECTOR position doesn't matter
  • To listen to the iPhone, select B on the MONITOR. SELECTOR position doesn't matter
ETA: OK, the Schiit Modi is a DAC, I was thinking it was a streaming device. What component did you want to use it with? If the iPhone, connect a lightning to USB 3 cable between the iPhone and the Modi.

I should have looked more closely at your components. Here's another (possibly better) way to do it:
  1. Schiit Modi into AUX input on receiver
  2. iPhone to USB input on Modi
  3. CD to digital input (either co-ax or optical) on Modi
  4. TAPE A RECORD to IN on Loki
  5. TAPE A PLAY to OUT on Loki
  • To use all components except TUNER, select AUX on the selector. Select A on the TAPE MONITOR if you want to use the Loki. Make sure the DUBBING switch is in the center
  • Use the front panel switch on the Modi to switch between CD and iPhone

FrogWhisper!! what a great name!!
Thank you so much for your advice!!

I’m gonna try that setup- cables have just this minute arrived! (gotta luv Prime!)

I thought the Loki might be overkill, was thinking it might help the iPhone EQ with Modi for Spotify etc...

I’ll let you know how it all goes...

I also have a Trio KD1033 TT - this obvs goes in the phono- just wondering if this would effect any other stuff with interference etc..?
