i fancy dipping my toe into full range speakers, local to me are a pair of Coral Beta 10s in original cabinets that include an arb.
i use at the moment yamaha ns1000's in the nearfield listening position and was wondering if id get on with the corals.
i suspect the midrange is where both speakers excel but im concerned with a lack of top end that perhaps the corals will loose out ?

Those Corals are highly regarded and I'd bet you'd be satisfied with their highs. I have the smaller Coral Holey Baskets which are stunning in OB's. Hope to try them in BLH cabinets.

Please forgive my ignorance- What are BLH cabinets?
For that matter maybe you could enlighten me as to the other enclosure type info? I'm referring to the abbreviated nomenclature, e.g. BL this, or QW that.
While I was typing . . . "back loaded H" cabinet correct?
I understand:
AS- Acoustic Suspension
PB- Ported Box
TL- Transmission Line
some others, of course.
I get lost on many of the more intricate speaker designs and then their variations.

Back loaded horn.

The back wave from the driver goes through a horn/guide through to the front of the cabinet.
Sumthin' like that...

Then there is the bifurcated back loading folded horn like Klipsch, Tannoy, or the pair of DIY BLH cabinets I have from Jensen plans...Altec did it as well if I recall.

Here's a back loaded horn kit from Madisound. Last night I tried my Coral Holey Baskets in Frugal Horns ( BLH ) and they sound wonderful.

They were very popular in the late 70's, heard them in showrooms, very efficient and wide sound stage, interesting to hear your thoughts between them and the NS1000's?

I used the original cabinet dimensions as shown here but reconfigured the port dimensions in a port running the length of the cabinet on one side.
I got them built mirror image so l can have the ports on the inside or the outside of the cabinet depending on which side l place each speaker.
After numerous attempts using different damping material l finally nailed the sound when l hung a curtain of the batting behind the driver.
They sound sublime.
They are in storage at the moment.
Built from 22mm mdf with a 32mm face plate.

well im back from a 6 hr round trip,

ive had a nose inside and drivers just shout quality, the cabinets however are your typical 70's chipboard veneer.

the drivers are in a cloth mesh bag hence the discoloured look, with the mesh removed they look sweet as!

and how do they sound?
well i was a little worried about the top end,i shouldn't have been as thats very good,in fact if anything they lack deep bass, whats there is very tight and well defined but i can now see simons comment about adding a sub and i can also appreciate why people make blh cabs for them.
the soundstage they create is very big,it extends well past the speakers width, something im not used to with the yamahas.
over all though im very pleased indeed with the sound,i dont know how out of use they have been so they may improve with use,ive also turned the drivers 180 degrees.
