Coral speakers, anybody know them?

They are pretty solid, and though a bit scratched, look fairly decent.
They might not be the greatest speakers in the world, but they sure are singing to me now 
I've just hooked them up about an hour ago, they were bought for my bedroom, which is where I listen to music, and I'm a happy cat
They are replacing a pair of Dali Concept 1's, small bookshelf type, so not really surprising that the sound is fuller and richer, but the highs are clearer and they are simply giving a better sound image.
Neil Young is currently singing right here in my bedroom

I know this is an old thread, but I have a pair of coral bx-2000's handed down to me from my dad. He says he bought 'em new via px in japan, circa 1974. I grew up with those thru the 70's and half of the 80's, and later sansui towers, aiwa cabinets, sonys, etc. Those corals are still the warmest sounding speakers I've ever heard, analog or digital (mine are five speaker models with fins on the midrange and tweeters). I'm guessing the sound is attributable to the heavy cabinet. If anyone can tell me more about coral, I'd love to hear it. I tried searching here and elsewhere, and the info I've found is scattered.

Just ran across a pair of Coral BX-1001's in great visual shape today at a thrift for $40/pr. Didn't get them as I don't need yet another pair and I'm really not familiar with the brand. I know they made some well-regarded drivers, but don't know if the drivers in these are worth anything. Cabs are nice and heavy, and have the Sansui-like wooden grilles.
I own this set of corals, the bx1001. I love them. I have them on top of my forte's. Thye have a very similar effeciency. Together they sound incredible.
The corals alon are very good with vocals and do quite well witha t ube amp. They do lack bass, they have it, but it is a quite a bit lower spl than the low mids and up.
I would love to see another, larger set of these and give them a listen some day.

Hmmm... :scratch2: Maybe I should pick them up to pair with my HH Scott LK-48 - I listen to a lot of Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Nat Cole, Mel Torme, Sinatra, Nancy WIlson, Dinah Washington, etc.

I also have a pair of BX-1001 and I'm currently using them with a Tripath based 8 watt amp in my 12v battery powered cabin. They sounded kinda crappy when I first got them from the thrift but I applied some Meguairs Rubber Renew to the surrounds on the woofer and they smoothed out quite a bit. I've been looking for a second pair so I can stack them and get all the watts out of my little amp.
They do sound better with Sinatra type recordings but after a six pack or two they also sound good with Iron Maiden et. al. I'm pretty sure that's the beer talking though...
The cabs are actually nice and solid so if you didn't like the speakers you could sell off the drivers (although they don't sell for much) and make some sort of Zilch econowave out of them.

Huh, they would also work with my DMS-1 streamer with the DIY built-in Sure Electronics Tripath amp...
After a six-pack or two I might even be able to tolerate Iron Maiden
I'll generally be sticking with the Sinatra-type stuff with a glass or two of wine, though
Now listening to this setup in a cabin on a 12V battery would be super cool...

It's at 11,000 feet and the nearest neighbor is far enough away to not mind the Iron Maiden either. The use of the term "cabin" might be an overstatement though. It's a 12'x15' shed with a wood burning stove, a stereo and a couple of bunks in it. Think of it as a playhouse for grown men...
My tripath unit is a 41hz AMP6 basic. Works well with the Corals, almost too well though, next time at the cabin I'm going to build some stands out of chainsawed log to get them off the floor a foot or so.

So this Rubber Renew stuff, do you still like the way that worked out? I just picked up a pair of 1002's and was thinking of giving it a try.
Did your grille just pop off? Mine is stapled on and it's going to wreck the fabric if I remove it. I could replace it easily enough, got plenty of old, cooling fabric around, but I don't want to commit some kind of atrocity.

I know this is a dead thread but anyhoo... in Germany in the Army in early 70's - back when everybody there was buying Bose, a friend bought a pair of Corals and they sounded significantly better than others in the barracks. I wish I knew the model.
