Cracked dustcover problem...SOLVED!

So I have a pioneer pl 510A I have been working on. I fixed the speed control problems, cleaned, and replaced the wood grain "sticker" with walnut veneer. The only thing left was to do the best I could with the cracked, and horribly scratched dustcover.
I sanded and buffed it out using the 3M headlight kit. It really came out pretty nice, but the 7 inch crack, and the yellowing plastic was just too much. I thought that there was noting else to do, so I let it go.
So on Tuesday I found a Scott belt drive TT at the goodwill, and decided I just wanted to have something to take apart and play with. I took it home for $25 and figured it was worth the price to practice fixing something. As soon as I took the cover off I noticed the hinges were EXACTLY the same as the pioneer table, and a perfect fit!
Its the little wins that I appreciate most!

I'll post pics soon.

I had a nice condition Sony PS-T22 with a missing hinge. I was frustrated because I knew the missing hinge was going to take away $75 value in a perfectly good turntable!

I was looking through my stock and noticed my original Yamaha P-350 belt drive I pulled from out from under the stairs this spring. I never liked it much, even though it sounded good, because the dust over kept on falling down. Checked the hinges and they were identical except! Awesome! And someone got a nice turntable in the end!

Another dustcover for that headlight treatment and you are done. Nice.

Scott ps 17a.

as a side note I was having crazy speed issues with the Pioneer. there are two identical micro switched inside, one is a power switch, and the other it's used to change speed. I move the power switch to replace the speed switch and vice versa...problem solved! rock steady speed !

Thanks, and duly noted.

I once saw a mason jar of those micro switches at a HAM fest marked as 50¢ each. After circling the table I went back to buy some. There were only 2 left!. Just moments before my return "someone in a red jacket" had bought the other 16. I scarfed up the last two, lamenting that if you snooze you lose. Now if I could just remember where I stored them.

I found a cheap throw-away Fisher table once that had a dustcover the same dimension as the one for a Pl-560. Unlike the original, it was smoked. It looked pretty cool. The hinges were in the wrong spot so I relocated the hinge sockets on the back of the table.

Right now I have a PL-514 with a non-Pioneer dustcover I picked up somewhere. Like the OP's Scott dustcover, it was a drop-on, an exact match for the Pioneer.

I'm guessing there is a lot of crossover with the dustcover and hardware. probably cheaper(easier) to order unbranded versions rather than tool up and build your own.
