I've wanted a pair of L300 Summits since 1978 or 79. I finally found a pair from a Craigslist posting. Well, they came indirectly I should say, from CL.
This is an early pair of Summits that is in VG condition. All drivers are original and are in working order. The pair is consecutively serial numbered and came with the original boxes. The boxes are beat to all heck, but they are indeed the original boxes.
Wow. I have waited almost 30 years for a pair of these!

Holy $h!t Gene! those look awesome! I've never got a chance to hear some in person. How did you get ahold of those?

wow is an understatement.

now you got to save up for some jbl S8Rs, jk. unless you want a little more bass, and spend alot more money

Hi Gene,

Great Scott!!! (Since Superman is back in action). Even the original boxes, wow. You need to go over the boxes with clear tape to shore them up and retain them for the future, they're even more rare than the speakers.

The speakers look very nice, just a lot of dust, even the glass is there. Should check the woofer surrounds to see what shape they're in but hey, that still wouldn't be much cost to cover.

OK, Now we've just got to have the details of how you came across these. I checked the SFBay CL listings and no L300's there, so how did they "indirectly" show up - you went for something else, casually asked if they had any stuff like vintage solid state, tube, or old JBL speakers, and, Voila!! The facts, just the facts. Did you have to go out beyond Livermore (tracy?)

Congratulations and I hope the price was under $400!! What color are the grilles?

Regards,

Bart

Congrats! What are you going to be driving them with? ...and yes, the full story is in order.... :thmbsp:

Well alrighty, not a great story but here goes...

The seller had three pairs of L300's! Due to health issues, his cousin listed and sold one of the pairs for him on CL about three weeks or so ago. That's how I indirectly got these.

I was in contact with the owner's cousin about the original pair, but alas, I was third in line and buyer number one bought the first pair of Summits from that CL posting.
It turns out that the speakers are being stored in a mini storage real close to my house. Dang, it's just across the freeway, not even a mile and a half away. The cousin said that she wished that I gotten the JBL's since I had been looking so long, etc.
But, she said. My cousin has another pair that needs alot of work...
I will call him and see what he's going to do with them. She called back and said, well sorry, my cousin says that they are not for sale. But, he asked for your number and he will call if he changes his mind.

That's basically how I got them. The owner called me this past week and said that this was the pair of L300's that he was saving for himself. It's an early pair that under the dust and grime are in better condition, more desirable than the first pair that was sold. Plus, those original boxes!

Very very nice! Glad the long wait is over. You're gonna have to invite me over for a listen! Hey...I thought you didn't like boxes?

Cheers!

and now..since its the dollars and cents forum..the inevidable questian, how much did those set you back?

And, can i coem hear them?

A real nice looking speaker for sure!

What's the magic surrounding them and the sound like?

I've never seen or heard of these before.

Once again, congrats!

I have no room!!

Carl,
You're invited! And yes, I hate boxes. They take up so much dang room and these boxes are almost the size of wash machines! Plus, there's two of them! But what am I to do? I guess I have to save these. They have the serial numbers of the units on them.

A quick story on boxes. I sold a 2270 a few years ago. I also happened to have a 2270 box, but it was from another unit. So, it didn't go with the sale. Actually, I forgot about having that box, otherwise, it would have gone along with the deal. Maybe even enhanced the sale.
But, the buyer was a kind of a jerk, so when I realized that I still had a 2270 box kicking around, I didn't bother to call him. Just kept it.
This is the kicker. One day at Norm's I mentioned that 2270 box. This is a year or so after. The guy who bought the 2270 from me was there at the shop! He recognized me but I completely forgot him. Well, I did remember that he wasn't a very nice guy.
That's when he told me who he was, and demanded that box! Demanded that box! He even called me three more times for that box!

Geez, I still have that box even though I told you that I can't stand them! They take up so much room!
