Crown Addiction Photos

Can they hear that in Canada if you turn those up?
Gradiant Drive amplifier.... sounds seriously like something Northrop or Raytheon would have
Looked up those gradient amps those are serious !
Impressive collections of Crowns.

Very Nice Collection!

I have a small couple of pieces, an FM-1 which is a little battle scarred, a Powerline 1 amp, a Powerbase 1 amp, and a DC300A faceplate (can't even remember where I got that).

Course, here's a pic of where it all started for Crown:

pr78_hz.jpg

I used to own a 724 R2R so I had a little experience moving it around from time to time...so how much do you think that wall of R2Rs weighs?:D

View attachment 1266170 DSC00256 - Copy - Copy - Copy - Copy.JPG View attachment 1265314 I have 2 gradient drive amps too running on 3phase inverters. I cant push the 10kw each cause the house 250 amp line gets hot and i loose 220volt line voltage, it drops like 8-10 volts on full tilt. got around 50kilowatts besids with lots of bridged crowns and dynacos,
had to move it all after hurricne Sandy hit NY years back and it never got proper reassembly. I love to play my 5 string Bass fender thru it all too along with the music.View attachment 1265314

heres some of the past soundsystem, other Amplifier stacks not shown are BGWs ,QSCs,and other off brands
my biggest prob is loading down the input drive and I have to use the Equilizers and or the extra IC150s and Pat5s.
you can Never have too much power!!!! the random 6 techrons 10ks and m600 are also not shown
all my speakers are home built and use alot of JBL, Black widow, Altec, This is in my home basement again since Sandy.
best High clean DB is 130 using my fender (Randy Rhodes signed) 6 string playing nonoverdriven lead.

Never too much power! Those 10k Crowns are insane. My uncle scored a dozen M600 Techrons that were used to drive shake tables like 20yrs ago. I think he sold ‘em all but one.

its funny someone mentioned Raytheon and Grumman, I worked for both in the 80s and yes they used them for shaker vibration tests-Mil spec. It was so cool when ramping up the tests they would pass the buildings resonant freq and things would oscillate all over the place for a few secs till it was past the Fz. we had 10 techron 10k amps driven by a single signal generator manually operated for a year till HP made a computer interface and a ladder logic program to run the test.
And you guessed it I modulated the input with Led Zep on the weekends for some real cool building shaking fun. thats kinda why I need the same experience at home now. LOL....
and would you believe we blew up a techron about every 2 months. smoked the 3 phase transformers. we even ran some M600s on 70Hz from a military gen that was crazy unstable and fed an switching PS for radar. those were the days of unlimited budget fun.
Ps I like the Olds I had restored OEM gold, a few 70 Hurst 455 ramair 4spd cars along with my 4 hemis. they would almost keep up with the Hemi but at 1000ft the Hemi would really start breathing and pass the HO455 car. but thats another website.

will use it in bedroom setup when done with 2 Dyna 416s and jbl 2206h/babycheek speakers.

s-l1600 (31).jpg yup its old time mono from A new york tv station,1969 ser #165 in storage pods now from flood.

zepplins amps.jpg my 2 10000.jpg my 2 10000.jpg my 2 10000.jpg I have many more since back then I hung at the collsium all the time all week during the sound checks with all the big bands at the time, I also started going to Nassau college after which was across the street from the collesium. so i was always free a few hrs every day between classes. I was already big into music and pro audio since i was like 10 and solid state tour equipt really turned me on. sometimes I hung out during concerts just to see the backstage activity and mixing instead of watching the groups play. Had Ozzy O. fall over me once and pass out while having my head in the mouth of a JBL folded horn during Randy R rehersal. they thought I was a sound intern and just told me "get back stage" roadrat... LOL. thats when I got JBL hooked too and crazy about the new 2206H, selium JBL 15s and 18s subs, they can take a M-600 all day at max power and just get started. most of my memoribilia is long gone but if it was Metal music related I had some. I donated my signed guitar when Ronny James porpolive-Dio died to his family museum. No The Jones Beach therter is a big tour target, but there is no more hanging round too much security and crazies trying to get at the stars. Oh why is this revelant--- most bands use CROWN amps (see pixx) by the dozens for their arrays and or crown/JBL module units for their stage sets. and 200,000 watts is not unusual even for medium sets but the outdoor setups go to 500kw like the medowlands and the stadiums ..since there is no indoor building DB compression. Got to love amps that hav modded water cooling modukes Power is so cheap now they throw away a couple amps after many tours /speakers too but those usually just get left behind where they failed. the days of switching Ps changed the game bigtime. the sound mix curve is set by the stage amps processors like Marshall stacks and just miked for up powering. pardon my typing I got Parkinsism.
lots of old skool Crowns hard at work no toy switching PS here just Raw 60 Hz power
I consulted on sound systems in some major NY-LI rock clubs way back when Hard Rock was big 80s.LimeLight in NY, Spit and uncle sams in east meadow had 100KWs of Crowns-all went to Amp heavan when it Burned down I was crying looking at melted / water damaged 10KWs going in dumpster.

All those typing issues, I thought it might have been too much heavy metal from the throat of those 15/18" woofers.

Welcome to ak, enjoying the stories.

If the Crown is just a transport I wonder if Chuck Ziska could make it a sweet stereo unit with either the tube electronics, two of the orig electronics or the solid state CX or SX boxes. The Crown tape decks sound amazing.

yea i shake and hit the keys next to it or i type with screen keyboard and mouse. I also just had a crainamoty and left brain trama/ was flatline 2.6 mins and did not come conscience for 3 days. this was 9 months ago.
I hane the tape trpt in pods storage since Huricane Sandy.
hope u like the pics scanned 300 in from old days.
boy oh boy do i hate digital music, im musician and need to hear / and Feel the harmonics, inotations, vibrato sustain of string instruments. missing from compressed, equlized for target market.

s-l1600 (37).jpg 002.jpg my system hit 130+ db and the big Jbl horns were painful so I did loose some hearing in left ear-yea I have a Osha hearing tester somewhere here but it only does 150-10k. im approx 25-16khz by sig generator sweep, lost my high end and have ringing. and got to note i played with explosives too. ever hear of Grucci fireworks here in Bayshore. Dad worked next door to them and made electronic fuse remote triggers for Govt contract work with them in the 60-70s.
see previos post pic(standing) his electronic graphite/U235 Reactor control room from Brookhaven National labs in Upton. so i had plenty teenage boom,! "toys"
oh I also Drage raced unmuffled Hemis for about 10years-open 3" headers out under fenders.
