Anybody own a pair of 3009's?
I need the port diameter and tube length for the reflex port please.
Also, any info you might have on internal damping material and bracing if any.

Thanks

I had a pair for a short time but sold them to a friend who fell in love with them. They used the Infinity standard polyfill. I don't recall if there was any internal bracing. The port was just the typical stiff cardboard. If no-one else replies I can get him to measure the port if needed.

Thanks, every little bit of info helps. Starting a 3009 clone project. Crossover info was easy to come by. Found the correct tweeters quick and a pair of mids that needed a refoam. The mid bass and woofers are nonexistent right now. May have to substitute those.

bracing was simple X of ~2" wood in one or two places. I'm away from mine atm, so can't give you meaasurements, but I think the port diameter is ~3"

polyfill is the stuffing. the port is one place they cheaped out when compared to the kappas. I've always considered the CS the circuit city version of kappas, as everything but the polydome is identical.

I'm shifting gears on this thread.....

Well, I started this project with the intent of building a pair of CS 3009 clones as close as possible to the originals mainly because the originals are way outside my budget. The woofers and mid bass speakers are apparently unobtainium, that and a pair of SM-115s AND a pair of SM-155s became available for an unbelievably low price....so I bought them.
Quick research here shows that my decision will be frowned upon, so to the naysayers I say save your comments if you have nothing but criticism to give. Yes, the speakers need some work. The 115s need the woofers refoamed, but they sound very good and with some damping material and recapping the crossovers can be improved upon.
The seller told me up front that the 155s seemed to be completely dead though he didn't bother to have them tested after the big buzz/pop when his wife unplugged the amp while it was on. He did hook them to another amp but got nothing. Did a continuity check and the connections read open on both speakers. Pulled the woofers for access and found both speakers had a wire disconnected at the input. Took a reading and both speakers ohmed out at 3.7 ohms. This doesn't mean that the tweeter and midrange fuses aren't blown, but it does give some hope for when I hook these up in a bit to test.
I'll have more later. In the mean time, I have a pair of EMIT R tweeters with nothing to do. Would these be an improvement over the poly cells? I understand some people think the polycells are a bit harsh even after recapping.

Open to mods and improvement suggestions that can be made to make these speakers better.

EDIT; Powered them up.....THEY LIVE !!!!!, but they need some TLC. L pads need a good flush/Deoxit cleaning.

I would leave the Polycells in place and maybe sell the EMIT-Rs to fund other improvements like caps. I tried a Polycell/EMIT-R swap in a pair of RS 10s as the Polycell and EMIT-R mounting screw holes are nearly identical(it makes for a tempting swap). Lets just say the Polycells were put back in within 10 minutes. The sound was horrible. The RS 10s were voiced for Polycells and I think it would take a lot of crossover mods to get an EMIT-R to integrate properly.
