Cutting corners

Anybody have any good tricks for working with corners when you redo speaker grilles? You know where it all gets bunched up?
I can usually deal with wooden frames but gluing and stapling, but I have some plastic frames on a set of Advent Heritages that might be a rough test? i'm planning on cutting a 45 angle on them to reduce the overlap, but we'll see...
